Embarrassing Moments and Honoring Others

Speaker 1

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with your host, pastor Brandon. Today, esther, chapter 6, and today's title is how Embarrassing, how embarrassing. You know, at this point nobody likes Haman, and we're about to see him get his just desserts, and we're going to get into that in just a moment. Plus, I want to tell you about one of my most embarrassing moments.

Speaker 1

But before we get into that, as always, if you like what we're doing here, make sure you like, share and subscribe to the YouTube channel and to the podcast. Make sure you're asking us your questions. We love interacting with everyone, as our community just continues to grow. And, as always, make sure you're going to the Bible Breakdown Discussion on Facebook, because the more we dig, the more we find, and I love just interacting with different ones. And a couple of ways you can do that is listen to the podcast. If you go to the detail section, where you learn about the different episodes which, by the way if you go to the details information section of the podcast, every day we've got some information there for you there's a place where you can ask questions. Also, if you ask questions on YouTube yes, that's me that's doing the interaction there and I would love to interact with you as we just grow together, and I love the idea of being able to do this because it's just, it's how we grow, it's doing life together, right? So make sure you're asking your questions. Well, if you have your Bibles, want to open up with me to Esther, chapter six? I've had a lot of embarrassing moments in my life and I would love to know, like I've had a lot of embarrassing moments in my life and I would love to know, let me know down in the comments below if you're listening to this on YouTube. I'd love to know an embarrassing moment that you're willing to share. Let me know. I'd love to share our pain together. One of my most embarrassing moments was several several years ago.

Speaker 1

I had an opportunity to emcee this singing competition and my job when I was going to get up there it was very pressure oriented. A lot of people were there. They were competing to go to nationals. This was a statewide thing and my job was to get up and just introduce the guest and try to provide some lightheartedness, right? Well, I got up there the first time and I was also really nervous. I'd never done this before and I started trying to tell some jokes and different things and just try to be funny, and it just wasn't working. The atmosphere of the room was so tense and so tight that there just there was not going to be any laughing going on Right, and I was just doing my best, but it wasn't working. And I would.

Speaker 1

I'd been up there two or three times, and the third time I got up there I was going to get ready to introduce the next contestant and I tripped over a piece of equipment in front of a packed auditorium. And when I say I tripped, I didn't stumble. I mean I fell. My back was on the ground, my feet were up in the air. I mean I fell completely. And you know how that goes at a split second, when it seems like time stands still Well, instantly I thought I fell completely. And you know how that goes at that split second, when it seems like time stands still Well, instantly I thought, oh no, that's really embarrassing. But then in the back of my mind was maybe that will loosen up the crowd, I'm going to make the most out of it. So I get up and I say, wow, my bad, or something. Not a laugh, not a snicker, not a. Are you okay, it was. Come on, my friend, let's move on with it. And I like okay. I was even more embarrassed that nobody laughed with me than actually falling down. And I cannot tell you it was horrible, it was absolutely horrible. And me telling you that story, even living it right now, I'm still embarrassed thinking about it. And that is nothing compared to what Haman is going to go through today. So if you're ready, esther, chapter 6, verse 1, says this Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bechthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the door to the king's private quarters.

Speaker 1

They had plotted to assassinate King Xerxes. What reward or recognition did we ever give Mordecai for this? The king asked. His attendants replied nothing has been done for him. Who is it? Oh? And then king said who is it in the outer court? The king inquired and, as it happened, haman had just arrived in the outer court of the palace to ask the king to impale Mordecai on the pole he had prepared. So the attendants were replied to the king, haman is in the outer court. Ah, bring him in, the king ordered. So Haman came in and the king said listen, this is great.

Speaker 1

So the king asked Haman what should I do to honor a man that truly pleases me. Haman thought to himself whom would the king wish to honor more than me? He's so arrogant. So he replied, if the king wishes to honor someone, he should bring out one of the king's own royal robes, as well as a horse that the king himself has ridden, one of his royal emblem on his head. Let the robe and the horse be handed over to one of the king's most noble officials and let him see that the man whom the king wishes to honor is dressed in the king's robes and led through the city square on the king's horse. Have the official shout as they go. This is what the king does for someone he wishes to honor. Excellent. The king said to Haman Quick, take the robes and my horse and do just as you have said for Mordecai, the Jew who sits at the gates of the palace. Leave out nothing you have suggested. So here is the worst part. Here it is you ready? Verse 11. So Haman took the robes and he put them on Mordecai and placed him on the king's own horse and led him through the city square, himself shouting this is what the king does for someone he wishes to honor.

Speaker 1

Afterward, mordecai returned to the palace gate, but Haman hurried home, dejected and completely humiliated. Then Haman told his wife and all of his friends what had happened, and his wise advisors and his wife said since Mordecai, this man has humiliated you so and is of Jewish birth. You will never succeed in your plans against him. It will be fatal to continue opposing him. And while they were still talking, the king's eunuchs arrived and quickly took Haman to the banquet Esther had prepared. So it's a real bad day for Haman, to the banquet Esther had prepared. So it's a real bad day for Haman. Oh man, can you imagine and think about the arrogance of Haman Be like? Who does the king want to honor more than King me? You know me so. And then he ends up having to do it. It's horrible, it's horrible. So it's about to get a whole lot worse for Haman. But what can we possibly take away from this? And that is this you know, nothing ever happened to Mordecai because Mordecai had done this great thing for the king.

Speaker 1

I don't know about you, but there's been many times when I've tried to do the right thing for the right reason and it feels like nobody noticed and you don't do it for that reason. You do the right thing for the right reason, because it's the right thing to do. You do it as an act of worship, to honor God. You just do it because it's the right thing to do. Right Like doing the right thing is its own reward. But everybody wants to be recognized. Everybody wants accolades, affirmation thank you for your hard work.

God's Timing and Purpose

Speaker 1

But sometimes it doesn't come. Sometimes you work hard only to have someone criticize. You know, maybe you're a parent of a small child and the only thanks you get for staying up all night and and and doing the things in the day is more crying, more fussing. Maybe you're, you know. You know, if you're a, if you're a married couple and you have small kids, you know you you do the best you can. And because your spouse is just as tired as you are, you know you end up fighting over who's doing more. Instead of appreciation you get criticism. Maybe at work you go that extra mile and all it seems like is people notice what you didn't do. You know whatever it could be, and it can be so hard to do the right thing because you know there's all these old phrases, you know, that say you know the only good thing about doing something right is people have more reason to criticize, you know.

Speaker 1

But I want to encourage you. Never give up on doing what's right, doing what's holy, taking the next step because God sees what's holy. Taking the next step because God sees God doesn't miss anything. At the right time, he will reward you in the manner at which is the best for you. You know, if Mordecai had been honored the day that all this happened, I'm sure he would have been thankful, but now that he had to wait to this moment, it set them up for something even better. So God doesn't miss what you do. He honors you at the best possible time.

Speaker 1

Maybe you say well, pastor, that was 10 years ago when I did the thing and no one ever noticed. I know, remember, god sits outside of time, so time doesn't work the same way for him that it does for us. So be patient when the time is right. The Bible says you will reap a harvest if you do not give. Don't give up At the right time. God will bless you and reward you, and he'll do it in such a way that it'll be perfect. So be patient and wait the Lord, let's pray God. Thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that you're with us and for us I pray today.

Speaker 1

God, if there's anyone listening to this podcast or watching and feeling discouraged because they just feel like they've been overlooked, that no one sees them, no one knows them, I pray that you'll remind them that you see them, you know them and you are for them more than they can imagine. In Jesus' name we pray Amen. Amen. What God's word says in Esther, chapter four, verse 14, if you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place. But who knows, if perhaps you were made queen for such a time, can I tell you God's got a purpose for your life. You are where you are for a reason. God's going to get glory from this. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. For Esther, chapter 7.
