The More You Dig. The More You Find.
Well, everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today, job, chapter 28,. And today's title is God Knows the Way. God Knows the Way. Have you ever been on a walk with somebody kind of a hike, and you're not really sure where you're going? But there's one person who at least claims to have been there before, and so you just have to simply trust them.
Speaker 1:Well, one time I was on a walk with some friends of mine and there was one particular guy who said he'd been there before and he was like we got to go this way? Well, it was just like you'd see in the movies. There were these other trails that were very well laid out. You know, they were just like you've been there before. They've been there before. But there was this one trail that looked like it hadn't been walked on very much, and my friend was like that's the one we got to go on. Well, myself and my other friends were like you know, I don't know if you know where you're going. Trust me, I know where we're going. That's the quickest way to get out of here, cause that's what we were trying to do. We were trying to get back to our car. Uh's like listen, if you go those other ways, it's going to take you twice as long. This way's faster, and so we trusted him and we went that way and turns out, he knew exactly where he was going. It didn't seem like it would be the right way, but it actually was exactly the way we needed to go.
Speaker 1:Well, that is what Job is going to talk about today. He's going to talk about how many times in our life we don't always know which way to go. But if we will trust God, he really does know the way and he's trying to show us the way. But we have to realize that all these other paths in life may seem right, but only God knows the way to go. We're going to jump into that in just a moment. But if you like what we're doing, make sure you like share, subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast, make sure you're leaving us comments. Speaker 1:As we always say, the more we dig, the more we find, and they do such an amazing job there every day, writing those devotions for us just to engage with God's Word a little bit more. If you have your Bibles and you want to open up with me to Job, chapter 28, remember that this book is God's wisdom, trusting God's wisdom, even in suffering. Once again, we say this all the time. But it's so easy to trust God, isn't it, when everything's going well, when God's doing exactly what you think he ought to do, when you get the promotion, when your kids get better, when everything seems to go right. But what about when things aren't going right? It's easier to trust God in the good times than it is in the difficult times, but it's the difficult times when we really need to trust Him the most. Well, job is right in the middle of his final speech to his so-called friends and he is talking to them about the different things that God is doing and how we can trust him. And the last chapter he talked about how big God is and how we can trust him. And then he said I know what I know. I know that I didn't do anything bad to deserve this. God's doing something that I simply don't understand. Well, now in this chapter, he's going to say you know? He said God's doing something to understand, and today he's going to say and God knows the way he knows where he's taking me, and what wonderful joy we can have. Peace in a storm when we just realize God. I don't have a clue what you're doing, but I trust that you know where you're going. Let's read this together today in Job, chapter 28 and see what God's word will say to us. Job, chapter 28, verse one says this People know where to mine silver, they know how to refine gold.
Speaker 1:They know where to dig iron from the earth and they know how to smelt copper from rock. They know how to shine light in the darkness and explore the farthest regions of the earth. As they search in dark for ore, they sink a mine shaft into the earth, far from where anyone lives. They descend on ropes, swinging back and forth. Food is grown on the earth above, but down below the earth is melted by fire. Here the rocks contain precious lapis lazuli and the dust contains gold. These are treasures no bird of prey can see, no falcon's eyes observe, no wild animals has walked upon these treasures. No lion has ever set his paw there. People know how to tear apart flinty rocks and overturn the roots of mountains. They cut tunnels in the rocks and uncover precious stones. They dam up the trickling streams and they bring light in the hidden treasures.
Speaker 1:But do people know where to find wisdom? Can they find understanding? No one knows where to find it, for it is not found among the living. It is not here, says the ocean. Nor is it here, says the sea. It cannot be bought with gold and it cannot be purchased with silver. It's worth more than all the gold of Orpheor, greater than the precious onyx or lapis lazuli. Wisdom is more valuable than gold and crystal. It cannot be purchased with jewels mounted in fine gold and the price of wisdom is far above rubies. Precious peridot from Ethiopia cannot be exchanged for it. Its worth is more than purest gold. But do people know where to find wisdom? Can they find understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all humanity. Even the sharp-eyed birds in the sky cannot discover it. Destruction and death, say. We heard only rumors of where wisdom can be found, and here it is.
Speaker 1:God alone understands the way to wisdom. He knows where it can be found, for he looks throughout the whole earth and he sees everything under the heavens. He decided how hard the winds should blow and how much rain should fall. He made the laws for the rain and laid out the path for the lightning. He saw wisdom and evaluated it and he set it in place and examined it thoroughly. And this is what he says to all humanity Fear of the Lord is true wisdom. To forsake evil is real understanding.
Speaker 1:So what Job is saying is is he's saying remember, two chapters ago he said God is bigger than I am? Yesterday in that chapter he said and I know what I know that if I'm going through something is because God has a plan. And now he's saying and you know, what I know is that if God has a plan, then God has a map to get me through what I'm going through. Then God has a map to get me through what I'm going through. And can I tell you, god has a map to get you through what you're going through. I wish in life that God would get us out of every difficult place we go through. But God's word says in Psalm 23, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not be afraid, for you go with me. It's this mental picture that God gives us of sometimes he delivers us out, but sometimes he delivers us through, and in the through that we go through, god has a map of how to get us from point one to point two, to get us from A to B, and God knows the way, and he says the way to get through it.
Speaker 1:The wise way is to do two things. When you're going through the worst thing ever fear the Lord and forsake evil for real understanding. Now, what does that mean? Fear the Lord means to trust God, to respect God and to value Him above all else. When you're going through a difficult time, one of the first things you have to do is bring God back to the center of your life, because he's the only one that can do anything about it anyway. And so we put God back as the center of our life and then remove any distraction from our life. Put God at the center and remove any distraction from our life.
Speaker 1:So here's the challenging question for us today, number one is God at the center of your life? Is God in control? Is God at the very focus point of your life? If not, then maybe you need to spend some time in prayer today and say God, I have moved you off of the center focus of my life, but I'm ready to put you back as number one. Watch what happens when you do. You may find that some of the things start to clear up in your life as you start to focus on him. It starts to help you clarify other things in your life.
Speaker 1:The second thing is is there any distraction in your life? Is there any sin in your life that would distract you from seeing God more clearly? Maybe it's not a sin, maybe it's just something that is less than God's best for your life. Is it there? That will take some time and some reflection, but ask yourself and ask the Lord to reveal to you God, is there anything in my life that would cause me to not be as close to you as I could Watch what he says and then take the next step, because God knows the way through and it's mapped out with putting God first and removing any distractions from your life.
Speaker 1:Let's pray God. Thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that you are with us and that you are for us and everything. God, I'm so thankful that you know the way, lord. I remember one time somebody said God can pull you through anything if you can stand the pull. I pray, god, that we will hold on to you as tight as possible. We'll make you the focus. We'll remove all distraction so, lord, that we can come through everything we're going through. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen. And what God's Word says in Job, chapter 1, verse 21,. It says I came naked from my mother's womb. I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had and the Lord has taken it away. But praise the name of the Lord. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Job, chapter 29.
