How do we reconcile our own morality with the vastness of God's mercy? Today, we explore Job, chapter 37, reflecting on the profound concepts of God's mercy and the incredible power of His creation. We'll provoke you to introspect by ranking yourself on a scale from the virtuousness of Mother Teresa to the malevolence of Hitler. This thought-provoking exercise will help illuminate the boundless mercy God shows us despite His immense power. We also scrutinize the young man who speaks to Job, acknowledging his errors and sarcasm during Job's suffering, and emphasize the importance of showing grace to those who are in distress.

Our journey continues with a heartfelt prayer of gratitude for the gift of salvation and the ever-present nature of God. We highlight Job's unwavering trust in God despite his immense losses by reflecting on Job 1:21, underscoring that everything we have is from the Lord, and He has the right to take it away. This reinforces our trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. Join us in understanding the vastness of God's mercy and our place within His creation, and don't miss tomorrow's episode as we continue with chapter 38 of Job.

Speaker 1:

Well, hello everybody and welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, pastor Brandon. Today, job, chapter 37, and today's title is how Great is God's Mercy? How Great is God's Mercy? I want to ask you a question, as we are continuing to read this young feller who is just trying to tell Job off. It's not working out too well for him, but he's trying.

Speaker 1:

I want you to think about something. If you were to put yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 level of evil, what would you give yourself? 1 being Mother Teresa, right. 10 being like Hitler, right? You know what I mean. Has there ever been someone who's worse than that? He's always like the epitome of the most evil person. Right outside of Satan himself, there's Hitler. So, a scale of 1 to 10, where would you rank yourself? 1 being Mother Teresa, billy Graham that type of person. 10 being Hitler horrible person, right. The first person to ever domesticate a cat, that kind of person.

Speaker 1:

And we're going to get to that as we get to the end of the chapter and really talk about how great God's mercy truly is. We'll get all that in just a second. But, as always, if you like what we're doing here, make sure you like, share and subscribe to YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you're going to the Facebook page Bible Breakdown Discussions, so we can do all that together. But also I want you to know, as well as the wonderful work that they are doing there, we are also building a website called thebiblebreakdowncom and we are on that 10-year plan with that thing and that is, we want to create kind of an ongoing biblical commentary of the entire Bible, and so right now we have a wonderful team of people who's helping us archive this podcast. But what I want to do one day is go back and fill in this website with all kinds of different commentary and resources. I don't know if it's going to turn into my life's work or not, I don't know, but I really want to make that available to you. So make sure you're going to thebiblebreakdowncom and you can even have these chapters, not only text to you every day, but you can have them emailed to you as well through that website.

Speaker 1:

All right, so if you have your Bible, want to open up with me to Job, chapter 37. Once again, this young man. He is continuing to talk to Job. He's continuing to try to tell Job all these different things and he is going to say something at the end of this chapter. That is absolutely amazing when we get our minds around it. Now. He's also going to be super sarcastic and all of that. And, by the way, pro tip, when someone is struggling, they've lost their health, they've lost their family, they've lost everything. Maybe that's not the time to be sarcastic, you know what I'm saying. Maybe we show them a little bit of grace, but that's what's happening and he's. He's getting a lot of things wrong, right, but at the very end he's going to say something powerful and I can't wait for us to walk through this together and I want you to have in the back of your mind on a scale of one to 10, how good or evil would you scale yourself? Okay, all right, let's dive into this and let's see what God's word has to say.

Speaker 1:

Job, chapter 37, verse 1, says my heart pounds as I think of this, pounds as I think of this. It trembles within me. Listen carefully to the thunder of God's voice as it rolls from his mouth. It rolls across the heavens and his lightning flashes in every direction. Then comes the roaring of the thunder, the tremendous voice of his majesty. He does not restrain when he speaks. God's voice is glorious in the thunder we can't even imagine the greatness of his power. He directs the snow to fall on the earth and he tells the rain to pour down when everyone stops working. Then everyone stops working so they can watch his power. The wild animals take over and they stay inside their dens. The stormy wind comes from his chamber and the driving winds bring the cold. God's breath sends the ice, freezing wind expanses of water, freezing white expanses of water. He loads the clouds with moisture and they flash with his lightning. The clouds churn about at his direction and they do whatever he commands throughout the earth. He makes these things happen either to punish people or to show his further unveiling love.

Speaker 1:

Pay attention to this Job. Stop and consider the wonderful miracles of God. Do you know how God controls the storm and causes the lightning to flash from his clouds? Do you understand how he moves the clouds with wonderful perfection and skill? When you are, he says Can you do that? So teach us. Teach the rest of us what to say to God.

Speaker 1:

We are too ignorant to make our own arguments. Should God be notified that I want to speak? Can people even speak when they are confused? We cannot look at the sun, for it shines brightly in the sky when the wind clears away the clouds. So also, golden splendor comes from the mountain of God. He is clothed in dazzling splendor, and I love this, verse 23. We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty, but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us. No wonder people everywhere fear Him. All who are wise show him reverence.

Speaker 1:

I want to go back and I want to read verse 23. It says we cannot imagine the power of the Almighty, but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us. I want to think about that for a moment. So you've had a moment. One is Mother Teresa, billy Graham, whatever, your sweet old grandma Ten is Hitler, the first person to domesticate a cat, the worst human being ever. Where would you put yourself? I don't know where you would put yourself, but I'd say most people would be like, okay, look, I'm not Mother Teresa, but I am not Hitler. So give me a five, give me a four, teresa, but I am not Hitler, all right, so give me a five, give me a four.

Speaker 1:

Here's the thing you realize that the Bible says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. God's word says there are none righteous. No, not one. And that means that in order for us to miss heaven, we only have to have one sin, because the Bible says the wages of sin, the cost of sin, is death. So really it doesn't matter if you're a one or a 10, if there's one sin in your life that excludes us from heaven, because sin cannot enter into the presence of God. And so the idea of well, I'm a pretty good person, it doesn't really matter. If you're even a one on the scale of one to ten, you forfeit heaven. Billy Graham has no claim to heaven on his own. Mother Teresa has no claim to heaven on her own. Like if any sin keeps us out of the presence of God. And that's what's so amazing when we realize that nobody, no human being, has ever earned heaven. We can't. We've never been sinless.

Speaker 1:

What about Jesus? Well, jesus was God. You know. He was fully God and fully man. But he was God and he came to be that sinless sacrifice. The only innocent person to ever live died for our sins, and his name is Jesus.

Speaker 1:

And what I love about this is this guy, though he's getting a lot wrong. He's saying even though God is completely just and completely righteous, in other words, completely within his prerogative. If God were to take every single one of us and tell us we were going to hell, he would be within his right to do it, because all of us have sinned and that sin has separated us from the love of God. Sinned and that sin has separated us from the love of God. That's why God's mercy is so amazing is because none of us deserve it. That's what mercy is undeserved grace. And so I love the idea of this guy is saying even though God is mighty and he is fully just and fully sinless, he does not destroy us. And I think that is so very important that we remember Because, if we're honest, there's times when we think God is being unfair.

Speaker 1:

God, I don't deserve this. I don't deserve what I'm going through. I don't deserve the difficulty I'm having to endure and all this kind of stuff going through. I don't deserve the difficulty I'm having to endure and all this kind of stuff. And, whereas I sympathize with you a lot and, believe me, I can have a pity party with the best of them, if you really think about it, what do we really deserve? The Bible says John excuse me, romans 6, 23,. For the wages of sin is death. Do you know what every one of us deserve? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm trying to provoke our gratefulness. All of us deserve hell, we deserve judgment, but the rest of the verse says One of my favorite verses is Romans 5.8.

Speaker 1:

That says God demonstrated his great love for us in that while we were still sinners, christ died for us. So, in other words, god didn't just shout his love from heaven, he came to earth himself, and then he didn't die for us on our best day, he died for us while we were still sinners. And one of the most amazing things is the greatest miracle we could ever hope to receive is freely given, and it's salvation. And so one of the things I think is so important because remember the overall theme of Job is trusting God's wisdom in suffering. And so one of the most important things to think about when we're going through suffering is to never let the enemy lie to us and say you know well, if God was good, he wouldn't be doing this. If God was good, he wouldn't. No, no, god's goodness is already on display in the opportunity for salvation. And then what's amazing is God does infinitely more than we could ever ask, think or imagine.

Speaker 1:

So make sure you understand, as we get ready to end our time, I am in no way trying to minimize any pain you're going through. I'm in no way trying to minimize the hurt you may feel or the devastation you're experiencing. What I am saying is never let the enemy try to doubt your faith in God by ever using the word fair God. It's not fair what I'm going through. The reality is it's not fair, but it is very unfair in our favor, because none of us deserve heaven, none of us deserve the opportunity for salvation, and once again we read the verse we cannot imagine the power of the Almighty, but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us. Can I tell you, if you're going through a hard time, god is with you more than you can imagine. And if you don't have another reason to be thankful, the number one reason you can be thankful today is because of salvation, the greatest miracle you could ever hope for. If you're a Christ follower, you've already received. Let's pray together right now.

Speaker 1:

God, thank you so much for the gift of salvation. Thank you that you are with us in more ways than we can imagine. Lord, I pray that you will do as David asked. He said restore the joy of my salvation, help us to remember just how much you love us. I celebrate you In Jesus' name. We pray, amen, amen. God's word says in Job 1, verse 21,. After he lost everything, he said I came naked from my mother's womb. I will be naked when I leave. The Lord has given me what I had and he has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord. God is good, and what a wonderful example of our trust in him. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. For Job, chapter 38.
