Ever felt your efforts were in vain compared to a higher power? Join us as Pastor Brandon takes us through Job, Chapter 38, where God finally speaks up amidst the whirlwind, challenging Job's and our understanding of creation, the universe, and divine wisdom. Pastor Brandon brilliantly connects this profound dialogue to the Genesis creation narrative, offering deep insights into the earth's foundations, the creation of angels, and the establishment of natural boundaries. This episode isn't just an exploration; it's an invitation to witness the poetic grandeur of God's words and their implications on divine omnipotence.

In a thought-provoking analogy, Pastor Brandon compares our meticulous efforts—like his wife's detailed vacation planning—to God's effortless control over the cosmos. This comparison serves as a humbling reminder to trust in God's immense power to handle life's greatest challenges. With a prayer for increased faith and a reflection on Job 1:21, we're encouraged to maintain unwavering trust in God, even during profound loss. Tune in tomorrow as we continue our journey with Job, Chapter 39, and uncover more layers of this remarkable biblical book.

Speaker 1:

Well, if you have your Bibles, I want to open it with me to Job, chapter 38. This is what we've been trying to get to right. This is the moment where God enters the conversation, and so to kind of bring you up to speed if you've missed a couple of episodes we've been on here back in Job, chapter 1 and 2, job lost everything he had, and over the course of the past several chapters, job has had his friends with him and they've been grappling back and forth with the overall theme of the book of Job, which is trusting God's wisdom in suffering. And they're going back and forth with Job and Job's saying listen, I don't understand. I wish God would just tell me what's going on and all this kind of stuff. And they're going God doesn't owe you anything, you've probably sinned. He's like I haven't sinned, but I do have questions, and it's just going back and forth and back and forth. Well, now Job gets what he's been asking for. And Job is going to now hear God, and the Bible says that he answers from a whirlwind. And so once you get this mental picture of just this dark cloud just spinning almost like a small tornado of sorts, just a whirlwind, and out of this whirlwind the voice of God comes and he's going to say a bunch of stuff, and it's amazing, as we sit here and I want to kind of tell you about something, and then we're going to dive into this and just enjoy hearing the words of God.

Speaker 1:

Now, one of the things is the events of Job happened about the same time of the events of Abraham, back in the book of Genesis, and we're not entirely sure who wrote the book of Job. What we do know is is this inspired of the Holy Spirit? But what's amazing and not everybody realizes is the next couple of chapters. God is going to tell Job hey, job, where were you when, basically, creation happened? And what a lot of people who study creation from a biblical worldview do is they actually take Genesis 1, 2, and 3, but what a lot of people don't know is they take Job 38, 39, and 40 and put them side by side to get a more full picture of what creation looked like. And so what we're going to read is what a lot of people look at as almost a commentary on Genesis 1, 2, and 3. So as we read that, realize that it is informing even more what creation looks like.

Speaker 1:

You ready, here we go, let's read it together. And it's here the words of the Lord at Job, chapter 38 out of the New Living Translation, verse 1. Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind. Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you and you must answer them. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much, who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line, what supports its foundation and who laid its cornerstones as the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy Pause. So right there, we know from creation.

Speaker 1:

People ask the question okay, well, creation talks about creating the sun, moon and stars and all that. When did God create the angels? Ever thought about that? Well, according to that verse, god created the angels at some point before he created the earth, so possibly somewhere after he said let there be light, and then before he started to create the earth, somewhere in there is when he created all the angels Verse eight who kept the sea inside its boundaries. That's day one and day two of creation as it burst. Verse 8. In other words, as he said, made it Remember. By the way, this is all written in Hebrew, poetry, so there's some poetry and prose happening as well.

Speaker 1:

Verse 9,. And as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness for I locked it from behind barred gates and limiting its shores and I said this far and no farther will you come here. Your proud waves must stop. In other words, that's when it said that he made land come up on the earth, and you had oceans and you also had land. He's describing that.

Speaker 1:

Verse 12, have you ever commanded the morning to appear and cause the dawn to rise in the east? That would have been when he caused the earth to spin. Verse 13,. Have you ever made daylight spread to the ends of the earth to bring an end to the night's wickedness? Verse 14, as the light approaches, the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal, and it robed in brilliant colors. So much sunrise and sunset, and the light disturbs the wicked and stops the arm that is raised in violence. Have you ever explored the springs from which the seas come? Have you ever explored their depths? Do you Now pause again?

Speaker 1:

Basically, he's talking about creating all of the things that are underneath the crust of the earth, as well as remember when the angels were created, at some point there was a fall of some of the angels, lucifer being the main one among them, and the Bible says that then hell was created for the devil and his angels. So all of that likely happened somewhere between let there be light and the creation of the earth. So you see, there's a lot more to this right. Verse 19,. Where does light come from? Where does darkness go? Verse 20, can you take each to its home? Do you know how to get there? But, of course, you know all of this, for you were born before it was all created and you are so very experienced. So, pause again. Basically, what God is saying is no, you have no idea. You have no idea how all this happened, but yet you're asking me to explain it, explain to you why this bad thing has happened. And you don't even understand all this.

Speaker 1:

Verse 22, have you ever visited the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of hail? I have reserved them as weapons for the time of trouble and the day of battle and war. Where is the path of the source of light? Where is the home in the east wind? Who created a channel for the torrents of rain? Who laid out the path for the lightning? Who makes the rain fall on barren land, in the desert where no one lives? Who sends rain to satisfy the parched ground and to make tender grass spring up? Does the rain have a father? Who gives birth to the dew? Who is the mother of the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens, for the water turns to ice as hard as rock, and the surface of the water freezes.

Speaker 1:

Can you direct the movement of the stars, binding the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion? Can you direct the constellations through the seasons or guide the bear with their cubs across the heavens? Do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth, in other words, all the stars and all the things I made? Do you have any idea how I even did that Verse 34,. Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? Can you make lightning appear and cause it to strike as you direct? Who gives intuition to the heart or instinct to the mind? Who is wise enough to count all the clouds? And who can tilt the water jars of heaven? And when the parched ground is dry and the soil is hardened into clods, can you stalk the prey for a lioness, satisfy the young lion's appetites as they lie in their dens or crouch in the thickets? Who provides food for the ravens when their young cry out to God and wander about in hunger? In other words, god is in the middle of a discourse and basically, what he is going to continue to say is Job, you have no idea what you don't know. You have no idea what you don't know.

Speaker 1:

And as we get ready to end our time together, I wonder what would happen if God entered the conversation today, as we've been talking about over the past several days, trusting God's wisdom in suffering. What would it look like if, for just a moment, god pulled back the curtain and let you see all that he is doing? Let you see that the Bible says that everything that we can imagine is held within the palm of his hand, figuratively speaking, that there's nothing that escapes his glance, nothing. The Genesis or, excuse me, not Genesis Matthew Jesus says that the very hairs on your head are numbered, but not just yours, but every single person who's ever existed. That there are so many things that God is doing that I wonder, if he pulled back the curtain, if we would ever wonder again if God is big enough to deal with our problems. I wonder if there would just be this sense of Shame, almost, of God. I am so sorry because I thought for a brief moment that maybe you couldn't handle my job issue or my sickness issue or my relationship issue.

Speaker 1:

I forget that all of this exists because you want it to, and he hasn't broken a sweat yet. Do you know what I mean? There's a lot of things that happen in our life and we're having to do everything we know to do. It kind of reminds me of my wife is in charge of planning our vacations and she's so good at it, and she will research for months. I mean, she will do so much hard work and she doesn't get near the appreciation she deserves. She'll work so hard for just five days for us to go somewhere or do something, and by the time we get close to it, she's just almost just exhausted just from all the planning and all the things and all the kind of stuff. And when you get there, she's just so exhausted and ready to get there. And that's what it takes to plan for five days.

Speaker 1:

God holds everything in existence and he hasn't broken a sweat because he's God, and so what I want all of us to think about today is, whatever your biggest issue is, think about that in the light of all that God is doing and allow that to make your problem, in perspective, seem so very doable in the hands of God. And then, as we continue over the next couple of days, god's going to take that and make it even more amazing. Let's pray together today, god, thank you so much that when we see you, we see how amazing you are. I pray today, god, that you will increase our trust to realize that you are for us in every way. And, god, if you can hold the world in existence, you can hold our heart as well. Thank you for loving us the way you do, in Jesus' name, amen.

Speaker 1:

Well, remember Job 1, verse 21,. After Job had lost everything, the Bible said he said, I came naked from my mother's womb. I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had and the Lord has taken it away. But praise the name of the Lord. What an amazing testimony of trust in God. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Job, chapter 39.
