The More You Dig. The More You Find.
Well, hello everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today. Song of Solomon, chapter 7, and today's title is the Celebration of Love. The Celebration of Love, and that's about the title to about a thousand rock songs. So take your pick and we're going to talk about it today, about being intentional in maintaining intimacy. But, as always, before we do that, make sure you like, share and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you're leaving us a five-star review on the podcast you will forever and always be my favorites and, as always, make sure that you're going to the Bible Breakdown Discussion on Facebook. Because, man, I'm going to tell you something the more we dig, the more we find, and they always do such an amazing job. Well, if you have your Bibles, want to open up with me to Song of Solomon, chapter 7,? I'm going to catch you up on what's been going on, and that is that this is Hebrew poetry that is written with the focus of celebrating the love relationship between a young husband and a young wife, and they're just, they're just crazy. I mean, they just love each other. It's silly and it's awesome and it's great and it's all the things right, but there's also this wonderful thing that God is teaching us through. This is inspired by the Holy Spirit. There's a reason why the Song of Solomon is in the Bible. We never need to forget this. This is inspired of God to be in here. There's many things that we can learn, but one of the great takeaways we can learn is this love between this young man and this young woman is an illustration of what pure love looks like. And if we understand how much this love exists between this young man and this young woman, how much more does God love us. And so it's a powerful thing. That's why we call the overall theme the Power of Love. Well, today we're taking the next step in what's been going on, so the past couple of days. A couple of days ago, in chapter number five, a young man wanted to come see his wife. She didn't want to get up out to bed. When she finally got out of the bed, he's gone. He's like, oh, I'm going to go down to the garden then for a little while. And so she goes to try to find him. Ruckus happens, and then finally she does find him, and then when she finds him and they find each other, they're just kind of going back and forth, and now he is just going to celebrate how beautiful she is and remember, this is ancient Hebrew literature. So he's going to use different ways to describe her love and her beauty. We probably wouldn't use today, but he's going to. And so, as always, pg-13 warning we're going to read this together and then we're going to figure out how we can apply this to our lives today. So, if you're ready.
Speaker 1:Song of Solomon, chapter 7, pg-13 warning, verse 1 says this how beautiful are your sandaled feet, o queenly maiden. Your rounded thighs are like jewels the work of a skilled craftsman. Or like jewels the work of a skilled craftsman. Your navel is perfectly formed like goblets filled with mixed wine. Between your thighs lies a mound of wheat bordered with lilies. Your breasts are like two fawns, twin fawns of a gazelle. Your neck is as beautiful as an ivory tower. Your eyes are like the sparkling pools of Heshbon by the gate of Bath-Ribim. Your nose is as fine as the Tower of Lebanon, overlooking Damascus. Now pause. I'd love to know, in the comments below, please, on the YouTube video, how many of you ladies, if someone said that your nose was like a tower, would be flattered by that. I just need to know.
Speaker 1:Okay, let's pick back up Verse 5. Your head is as majestic as Mount Carmel and the sheen of your hair radiates royalty. The king is held captive by its tresses. Oh, how beautiful you are, how pleasing my love, how full of delights. You are slender like a palm tree and your breasts are like its clusters of fruit. I said I will climb the palm tree and take hold of its fruit. May your breasts be like grape clusters and fragrance of your breath like apples. May your kisses be as exciting as the best wine. Then the young woman says yes, wine that goes down smoothly for my lover, flowing gently like lips and teeth over lips and teeth. I am my lover's and he claims me as his own. Come my love.
Speaker 1:Let us go out to the fields and spend the night among the wildflowers. Let us get up early and go to the vineyards to see if the grapevines have budded, if the blossoms have opened and if the pomegranates have bloomed. There I will give you my love. There, the mandrakes give off their fragrance and the finest fruits are out or at our door, new delights as well as old, which I have. You want me to tell you something? You and I just bonded over that chapter right there. We just made it through that together. And here's the thing. It's one thing to listen to it, it's another to read it, but the Lord is good. And here's the takeaway.
Speaker 1:Today, this joker is being intentional about maintaining his intimacy with his bride. He's telling her all about it. Now let's talk about this from a relationship standpoint. We mentioned this in our earlier chapters, but I want to ask you this question what are you doing to maintain the relationships in your life? Now let's talk first about marriage.
Speaker 1:What are you doing to maintain the relationship in your life when you're going through different seasons? Sometimes, the best thing you can do is just to not give up. Like, if you're in a season when you got small kids, you're married. You have small kids. Like if you're in a season when you've got small kids, you're married and you have small kids. You know what your best act of love is Is you take a shift at night and getting up with the screaming kids? That is the greatest act of love ever. But what about other seasons when you're just going through the motions? What are you doing to maintain the love relationship in your life?
Speaker 1:Can I ask you to do something today. What if, if you're married, what if you did something needlessly kind to your spouse? What I mean by that is it's different if you know, if you know you know what. Your spouse is the one in charge of the dishes, so you do the dishes for them today. Right, that's great, that's fine, that's wonderful. Do that, but what's their favorite candy? What's their favorite soda? Do they like flowers? What is something that is needless? In other words, it doesn't help move the ball forward as a family. It's just something that is frivolously nice that you could do, just as a little extra. Thank you, and I know everyone gives and receives love in a different way.
Speaker 1:But what is a thoughtful act of love and kindness that you could do? Let's broaden this out. Who is someone in your life that you sincerely are thankful for? A best friend, co-worker, a relative, someone like that? And what is a needless act of kindness you could do for them? Maybe they love coffee, but you know they're on a strict budget and they're not even letting themselves have a pumpkin spice latte right now. What if you went and bought them one and didn't tell them? What if you work together and you could do this? I don't know how this works, your different environment. But what if you say you know what, why don't you go home a little early? I'll finish up, just a needless act of kindness, just to say you matter to me and I'm thankful for you. Let's broaden this out a little more.
Speaker 1:What if today, in your prayer time, no matter how many needs you have, instead of asking God for your grocery list, all your needs what if you spent your entire time today in worship, just said you know what? God? I know that you know what I have need of, more than I do so today, instead of asking you for my needs, I'm just going to trust you with all of them and I'm just going to worship you today just because I want to remind you and remind myself how much you mean to me. I'm so thankful for you. Try those today and watch what happens. God, thank you so much that you're with us and you're for us.
Speaker 1:Thank you for your word, your word. God speaks to us in so many ways, on so many different levels. Lord, I'm thankful for your word. I'm thankful for the Song of Solomon, because it reminds us that, no matter how much we love each other, it doesn't even compare to how much you love us. I pray we will experience your love. Today, in Jesus' name, we pray, amen and amen. Well, god's word says in Song of Solomon, chapter 8, that waters cannot quench your love, nor can rivers drown it. No matter how much we love each other, god loves us even more. Now I don't know about you. I feel a little closer to you today after reading that together. All right, I can't wait for the great grand finale. Song of Solomon, chapter 8, tomorrow.
