The More You Dig. The More You Find.

Speaker 1:

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today. Song of Solomon, chapter 8, and today's title is the Power of Love. The Power of Love, now, that was a famous song back in the 1980s, but we ain't talking about a song in the 1980s. We're talking about Jesus up in here, we're talking about the Bible and we're going to finish with a flourish the Song of Solomon. But before we do that, as always, make sure you like, share and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you're leaving us a five-star review. Come on, we have made it through the Song of Solomon together. Give us a five-star review and just tell everybody how much you have loved the Song of Solomon. And, as always, make sure you are gathering together with us at the Bible Breakdown Discussion Group on Facebook, because, man, the more we dig, the more we find, and I'm really looking forward to finishing up Song of Solomon and everything that's coming after this. We've got so many great books of the Bible that are coming up after this. Next will be the book of James, and then we're going to get into one that I am wondering if it will be sneakily some of the people's favorite book of the Bible in the Old Testament, and that is Isaiah. There's so many great things, so make sure you are coming back here every day and going to the Bible breakdown discussion, okay? Well, if you have your Bibles.

Speaker 1:

I want to open up with me to Song of Solomon. I want to kind of remind you of the overview. First of all, we are not entirely certain if Solomon personally wrote this or if he oversaw its writing, or if the idea that it was named Song of Solomon was because it was part of the wisdom literature. What we do know is is this was written as a love poem, ancient Hebrew love poetry between a young man and a young woman, and there's some things in here that make us think that maybe Solomon at least had some kind of hand in it, because it does talk about him through here. But the main thing is it's celebrating the pure, innocent love between a young man and a young woman, and it is PG-13 all the way through and it's going to be PG-13 again today, so make sure we got that. But the overall idea is the power of love, which is not only the title chapter for today, but it's also the theme of the overall book, because we say, as much as we love one another, how much more does God love all of us? And so we celebrate this wonderful, beautiful love between this young man, this young woman, and then celebrate even more the love that God has for all of us. So, if you're ready, I'm going to finish this up and it's just going to kind of sum up the idea of how powerful love is, and we're going to finish off today talking about God's great love for us, but once again, pg 13 warning as we read this. So if you're ready.

Speaker 1:

Song of Solomon, chapter eight, verse one. It's going to start off with a young woman talking and she says this in verse one oh, I wish you were my brother, who nursed at my mother's breasts. Then I could kiss you, no matter who was watching. No one would criticize me. I would bring you to my childhood home and there you would teach me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, my sweet pomegranate wine. Your left arm would be under my head and your right arm would embrace me, good heavens.

Speaker 1:

Verse 5, the young women of Jerusalem. Reply who is this sweeping in from the desert, leaning on her lover? The young woman says I aroused you under the apple tree where your mother gave you birth, where, in great pain, she delivered. You Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. Your love is as strong as death. It's jealousy as enduring as the grave.

Speaker 1:

The young woman's brothers say we have a little sister, too young to have breasts. What will we do for our sister if someone asks to marry her? If she is a virgin like a wall, we will protect her with a silver tower, but if she is promiscuous, like a swinging door, we will block her door with a cedar bar. Good heavens. Then. The young woman says wait a minute. I was a virgin like a wall. Now my breasts are like towers. When my lover looks at me, he is delighted with what he sees. Good heavens, verse 11. Good heavens, verse 11. Over, but I will give 200 pieces to those who care for its vines. The young man says oh, my darling, lingering in the gardens, your companions are fortunate to hear your voice. Let me hear it too. And the young woman says come away, my love, be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices. Wow. So, as you can see, as the story ends, their love doesn't? They're continuing to build a life together. They're talking about the vineyards and the building of different things and they're just building their life together. And what a wonderful way for us to end.

Speaker 1:

The Song of Solomon and I know I've had fun with this and we've joked around and good heavens that one was hard to read but I love that. It describes love as unquenchable and as priceless. It's priceless, and they're building their life now to continue this love relationship and that is a great way for us to end this chapter together is to look and go. You know, there are seasons in life when man, the passion and the excitement of love is just overflowing. But it's not just about the passion of the moment that God's interested in. It is the building of a life together. God wants us to enjoy all the different emotions that come with love and all the different things. But he's not just interested in the momentary bliss of a quick relationship. He's interested in building a life, you with marriage relationships, you with friendships, most importantly, you with him.

Speaker 1:

There's a song we sing at church that says I will build my life on you, for you are a sure foundation. Jesus said that in Matthew, chapter five. He said those who build their life on my words. They're like the ones that when the storms come and the winds blow, even though it rocks the house, it doesn't destroy the house because it's built on a foundation. Can I tell you that's what God wants for you. God wants for you to have a, not just a moment, but a life with him, and it's going to be filled with things like we read in the Song of Solomon ups and downs, and there's going to be moments of curiosity, moments of concern, moments of worry, moments of just high praise and exuberance all the things. That's what a life is built out of. Life is a lot like a roller coaster. Have you noticed that? I know I have. There's high, highs and low lows and a whole lot of stuff in between.

Speaker 1:

And so let's start with the marriage relationship. If you're listening or watching this and you're married, there's going to be amazing moments, but there's a chance there could be challenging moments. The idea is to never get off the roller coaster, never stop being on the ride, that every day you get up and you're saying I'm not going to fight against you, I'm going to fight for our relationship and I'm going to guarantee you. There's going to be hard days, but if you never stop trying, you never stop forgiving, you never stop getting up one more day and say, one more day, I'm not going to give up. You might be surprised to find out that that's what a legacy is made out of. The same thing goes in our friendships and our close relationships and other areas, and that's what our relationship with God looks like.

Speaker 1:

Can I tell you, in your relationship with God, there is a chance there's going to be difficult journeys. There's going to be times when you think God should go left and he's going to go right. There's times when you think he should say yes and he's going to say no. There's times when you're going to feel like God's a million miles away, even though he's never far from all of us. You're going to have those moments. But if you get up one more day, if you tell God you trust him one more day, you'll be surprised by the time you get to the end of it and how faithful he is and how much not just how faithful, but how much your love relationship with him will grow.

Speaker 1:

Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that you're with us and you're for us in every way, lord, my prayer today is that you, god, will allow us to grow in your love more every single day. And the more we grow in you, the more we'll realize how wonderful it is to have a relationship with you and be part of the kingdom of God. We celebrate you today In Jesus' name. We pray Amen, and one more time God's Word says Song of Solomon, chapter 8, your love is as strong as death. It's jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame, and many waters cannot quench your love, nor can rivers drown it. As much as we love each other, god loves us even more. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. For James, chapter 1.
