The More You Dig. The More You Find.
Hello everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today, isaiah, chapter 25, and today's title is Can you Please Pass the Salvation? Can you Please Pass the Salvation? We're going to look at this and there's a part in this chapter because yesterday was the apocalypse of Isaiah. Today is talking about the praise of God's judgment, because it leads us to salvation, and he describes it like a big banquet. So we're going to look at it through that lens today. But, of course, as always, before we get into that, make sure you like, share and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you're leaving us a five-star review on the podcast, because the podcast listeners are forever and always my favorites, and make sure you're going to the Bible Breakdown Discussion on Facebook, because the more we dig, the more we find, and they're doing such a great job over there. If you have your Bibles, you want to open up with me to Isaiah, chapter 25. I don't know what it was like for you when you were a kid growing up, or maybe even as an adult, but in my family there were a couple of times a year when we would go see extended family and when we would go they would put this massive spread of food out everywhere and you would try to find a way you could get around to everything. But sometimes you couldn't. And if you couldn't you had to figure out either how do I slowly get around to that food or just straight up say excuse me, can you pass the peas? Can you pass the potatoes? Whatever it was, can you please pass it over? And the idea of the way Isaiah frames this in one part is like this heavenly banquet and we get to share in the salvation of God. And I love this idea because yesterday he was talking about everybody gets a spoonful of trouble. Everybody is going to share in the judgment of God, because all you people are crazy. But what I love is to not forget the overall idea of Isaiah, which is that God is our salvation. In every single chapter when God speaks of judgment, he's saying it because he doesn't want that to happen. When he's speaking of the peace of God and all of that, it's because that's what he does want to happen, and so we never want to lose the overall idea that God is not interested in our destruction. It says in his word he takes no delight in the judgment that he sends out upon people, it's always with the goal of bringing us back to him. So we're going to read this together today and we're going to talk about the idea of trusting in God's promises for the ultimate joy and comfort, and we're asking God can you please pass some of that salvation over here, you ready? Isaiah, chapter 25, verse 1, says this oh Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things. You planned them long ago and now you have accomplished them. Pause, that would be an amazing verse to remember Now.
Speaker 1:One of the reasons why I love encouraging people to memorize scripture is because most of the time, the enemy will attack you, not when you're sitting here reading your Bible with me every day on the Bible breakdown, but at work, when everything's going wrong, or in the car, when someone cuts you off and it really just is the last straw. You've got all these other issues and now this one. How wonderful would it be if, right there, in that moment when the enemy is just lying to you and filling your head with all these things, if you could then say that verse. I want to read it again. What a wonderful verse to memorize, to really remember the promises of God. Here it is, verse 1. Oh Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things. You planned them long ago and now they're here. You have accomplished them. That's powerful right.
Speaker 1:Verse two you turn mighty cities into heaps of ruins. Maybe you don't remember that one right. Cities with strong walls are turned to rubble. Beautiful palaces and distant lands disappear and will never be rebuilt. Therefore, strong nations will declare your glory. Ruthless nations will fear you, but you are a tower of refuge to the poor, o Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat, for the oppressive acts of ruthless people are like storms beating against a wall or like the relentless heat of the desert, but you silence the roar of foreign nations as the shade of a cloud cools relentless heat. There it is For all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat, filet mignon or, as one guy said, filet mignon for everybody.
Speaker 1:There.
Speaker 1:He will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.
Speaker 1:He will swallow up death forever.
Speaker 1:The sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord has spoken. In that day, the people will proclaim this is our God. We trusted in him and he saved us. This is the Lord in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings, for the Lord's hand of blessing will rest on Jerusalem, but Moab will be crushed. It will be like straw, trampled down and left to rot. God will punish down Moab's people as a swimmer pushes down water with his hands. He will end their pride in all their evil works. The high walls of Moab will be demolished. They will be brought down to the ground, down into the dust. Obviously, moab is their enemy. Moab is part of the problem, right?
Speaker 1:And what Isaiah is saying is God, there's going to be a season Yesterday we talked about this a season of judgment. But on the other side of that, god, you're doing all of that so that you can redeem us, so that you can do these great things and that you can bring us back to you and you can judge the wicked. So what's the overall idea today? And that is this to trust in God's promises to bring ultimate joy and comfort. I think it would be so important to take some time today and to remember the goodness of God. Remember some of those times in your life that in the season things were bad, but how God brought about goodness from it, because it reminds us that when bad things happen, god is still at work Just because something bad is going on. The presence of a storm is not the absence of God. Many times it takes a storm before you can see God moving. If you think about it, peter would have never been able to walk on water if he hadn't have been walking to Jesus in the middle of a storm, and many times it's in the storm that we see God do the most miracles. So what about you? Has there ever been a time in your life that you would never want to go back to?
Speaker 1:It was a difficult season. Tough things happen, mistakes were made, all of that but it was in those moments you saw God do great things. You saw God connect dots that could have never been connected otherwise. God connected you with people. He healed your body, he restored relationships. He showed himself faithful in your life in so many different ways you just couldn't imagine. Can I tell you one time that happened for me.
Speaker 1:It's happened for me so many times when my wife and I and our family, when we first moved to Bowling Green, kentucky, back in 2011, we were in the process of trying to start real life, church, start the church and all of that, and we didn't know anybody, and so we were constantly having to try to, you know, meet people and get things going. And it was as hard as you can imagine. Right, it was hard to do, but what was so amazing is, even though we had 99 problems, jesus wasn't one of them. And over and over and over again, when we ran out of options, god would make a way. God would show himself faithful. God would do this. We'd get a phone call that would change everything. We would meet somebody that would change everything.
Speaker 1:And it's so special now that when I think about that season, I'd never want to go back there again. It was hard, it was difficult, but I would never take anything for it because of what I learned about God during that season. You know one of the number one things I learned about God he is trustworthy, he will make a way, he will do what only he can do, and if you put your confidence, your faith, your hope, your trust in him and you do the best you can, god will always lead you in the right direction, and so that helps me now. When I go through difficult seasons and I don't understand what's going on and it feels like all I'm doing is making wrong decisions everywhere and I'm disappointing people, and all this happens and I get just so down sometimes. But then I think about those moments and I go man, god, if you did that, then you can do it again, and it's wonderful to remember the wonders of the Lord. So I want to challenge you today Take some time and just think about some of those seasons and what God taught you through it, and then how can you apply that to what you're going through today?
Speaker 1:Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much that you are with us in more ways than we can imagine. You're for us in more ways than we can imagine. I pray today that, as everyone who is listening or watching this, as they think back and reflect, they'll remember not just the hard times but your guiding hand through them all. Your word promises that we can be confident that you, who began a good work in us, will continue to complete it even into the day of Jesus Christ. We trust you in all things. In Jesus' name, we pray amen, amen. Well, god's word says in Isaiah 12, verse two God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord, god, is my strength and my song. He has given me the victory. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. For Isaiah 26.
