Join me for a nostalgic journey back to Alabama, where the joyful noise of a "y'all come choir" filled the air with a celebration of God's goodness. This episode uncovers the spirited singing of Judah in Isaiah 26, reminding us that lifting our voices in praise is about celebrating divine promises rather than seeking personal glory. As we explore the profound "perfect peace promise" nestled in verse 3, you'll discover how embracing this conditional yet transformative assurance can lead to a deeper connection with God's eternal strength and unwavering salvation.

As we unpack Isaiah 26, the conversation shifts to the vital role of trust and proactive faith in achieving perfect peace. Much like managing your finances, it's about working diligently and leaving the impossible to God's capable hands. Through prayer, scripture, and aligning our thoughts with His teachings, we explore how God's strength and victory bring serenity into our lives. Dive into the wisdom of Isaiah 12:2 and learn how actively trusting in God can lead to a life filled with peace and focus, anchored in His mighty promises.

Speaker 1:

Well, if you have your Bibles and want to open up with me to Isaiah 26, remember, the overall theme of Isaiah is that God is our salvation and this chapter is one of those precious chapters, because there's so many chapters where God is showing his salvation through judgment. He's saying listen, we're going to have to take these steps because I want to bring you back to me. And so they're hard to get through sometimes, because God is like going to a doctor and you say, doctor, I'm struggling. And he has to poke around until he finds out and then go, oh, okay, that's what's struggling. So God is poking around and saying, okay, where's the hurt at? And that's what those judgment chapters are all about. But this one is about it's saying one day, judah is going to sing a song, it's going to tell us. And what it reminds me of is when I was a kid I grew up in rural Alabama and we used to have this time at the beginning of our service, church services, and we would sing songs together and we would sing these songs in a choir or, as we would say in Alabama, choir, and our choirs were not these.

Speaker 1:

We wouldn't gather in times other than church and practice and all that kind of stuff. That was fine for people who did. That's just not what we did. What we did is we had what we called a y'all come choir, which means we're going to sing, y'all come. And so people would leave their seats in the auditorium and they would come up on the stage into the choir loft area and we would sing and everybody got a chance to sing. It didn't matter if you could or if you couldn't. It was all about making a joyful noise to the Lord, and there was a lot of us, that's. All we had was our joyful noise. So we joyfully noised to the Lord and it was wonderful because we didn't care, you know, if you could sing or not.

Speaker 1:

It was just all about celebrating the goodness and the promises of God, and that's what I think about. You know, we don't do that as much anymore. Now we go to karaoke places and we sing songs. That's why I want to know what it would be. But we would even have that. We would have a time in our service where, first of all, we'd have the y'all come choir sing three or four songs, and then it was okay, y'all come and now y'all go, everybody go back to their seat. And then what we would we wouldn't call it this back then, but we'd have like a karaoke moment and that is is anyone have you know a song they'd like to sing? And they'd come up there and they'd have this track that they'd play and they would sing to this track, and it was all about glorifying God. No one was trying to get a record deal, you know what I mean? We were just celebrating the Lord's goodness and it was so much fun.

Speaker 1:

And that's what I think about now when we read this chapter that the goal of this is not to brag on themselves, but to brag on the promises of God. And in this chapter, in verse 3, there is this an amazing promise. It's the perfect peace promise. That is a promise with a condition attached to it, that if we can grab onto this promise, I don't know if it will for you, but it revolutionized my life, like I literally say. It changed my life when I grabbed onto this, and so I can't wait to share it with you. And Judah be singing, and so let's read it together, you ready?

Speaker 1:

Isaiah, chapter 26, verse 1, says this and that day, everyone in the land of Judah they're going to y'all come and they're going to sing this song. Here it is. Our city is strong. We are surrounded by the walls of God's salvation. Open the gates to all who are righteous, allow the faithful to enter.

Speaker 1:

Here's the verse. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you, trust in the Lord always, for the Lord. God is the eternal rock. He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust. The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot and the needy walk all over it. But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right. You smooth out the path ahead of them.

Speaker 1:

Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws. Our heart's desire is to glorify your name. In the night I search for you and in the morning I earnestly seek you, for only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right. Your kindness to the wicked does not make them do good. Although others do right, the wicked, keep doing wrong and they take no notice of the Lord's majesty. O Lord, they pay no attention to your upraised fist. Show them your eagerness to defend your people, then they will be ashamed. Let your fire consume your enemies. Lord, you will grant us peace, for all we have accomplished is really from you, and they are long forgotten. Oh Lord, you have made our nation great. Yes, you have made us great. You have extended our borders and we give you glory.

Speaker 1:

Verse 16, lord, in distress, we searched for you. We prayed beneath the burden of your discipline. Just as a pregnant woman writhes and cries out in pain as she gives birth, so were we in your presence, o Lord. We too writhe in agony, but nothing comes out of our suffering. We have not given salvation to the earth, and nor have we brought life into the world. But those who die in the Lord will live. Their bodies will rise again. Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy. Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy, for your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead. Go home, my people, and lock your doors. Hide yourselves for a little while until the Lord's anger has passed. Look, the Lord is coming from heaven to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The Lord will no longer hide those who have been killed. They are being brought out for all to see. So, in other words, god's coming and he's bringing his justice with him.

Speaker 1:

But I want to go back to that verse three again and see what we can take away from this today. And that is this and I've been in this situation myself and I've walked with people who've done this as well, and that is walking through difficult seasons when it seems like the peace of God is so far away. And there's been a thousand reasons. It could be for physical reasons, financial reasons, social reasons, relationship issues, so many things that want to pull away our peace from God, and sometimes it can be anxious things, and just it's just so many things. Right, the one thing they all have in common is I've talked to people and I've been in the situation myself where I'm crying out for the peace of God.

Speaker 1:

God, I need your peace. I feel so insecure, I feel so depressed or anxious or worried or fearful, all these things. I need your peace, god, and the peace wouldn't come, and I would try to be faithful in my prayer but the peace wouldn't come. And maybe that's being a little extra vulnerable with you, but have you ever prayed for peace and it didn't come? And you're crying out for God. God, I need your peace. I need your peace. I need to know it's going to be okay. I need your peace and it didn't come. And you begin to go. God, I know you're faithful, but I'm struggling to figure out how you're being faithful right now and the peace doesn't come.

Speaker 1:

I went through that before and I would get so confused because I know God's faithful. I've seen him be faithful. It's not like this is a new thing. I've been a Christian for a while now, but where in the world, you know? And then one day I was reading God's word and this verse like literally just boom, I mean, it just hit me because he says you will keep in perfect peace. So I'm like God, you promised, but I notice there's not a period there, there's not even a comma there. He's still talking. It's like you will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in you. Okay, well, that helps me.

Speaker 1:

So peace comes through trust. You know, god's love language is trust, by the way, when we trust in him, god likes it. God likes it when we put our trust in him, it blesses him. When we put our trust in him, it's like okay, god, I trust you, but I'm still struggling with this peace. So I get it. There's something for me to do here. My job is to trust you, do the best I can and trust you. Your job is to bring peace. But, to be honest with you, that comes and goes. I mean, that's easy, but it comes and goes. And then I realize, oh, that's still not a period, it's just a comma, which means there's more. So you will keep in perfect peace. All who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you. And that's when it hit me. I was like oh, so what you're saying is, peace comes from trusting you and keeping my focus on you, not letting my focus go on other things.

Speaker 1:

And then I read in the New Testament where Paul says in Philippians 4, he says be anxious for nothing. In other words, worry about nothing. Don't let worry consume you. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, with prayer, with asking and with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God, which passes understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds, but then he has more to say. He says. And one more thing my dear brothers and sisters fix your thoughts. Focus your thoughts on what is true, honorable, lovely good of a good report, if there's anything excellent or praiseworthy. Focus on these things. Keep putting into practice everything you've heard and received, and then the God of peace will be with you.

Speaker 1:

And now, when I tell you that, that doesn't mean it became easy, but all of a sudden I got what I was doing wrong, and that is I would say God, I need your peace, and then all I would do is focus on my problem. And then I wondered if I could trust God. And God is saying you've got it exactly backwards, that what you're supposed to do is to say God, I need your peace, and I'm going to trust you, as I am waiting to see what you are doing and I am going to focus my thoughts on you. I'm not going to focus on my problem. Now. That doesn't mean we just sit around and let the world fall apart around us and just go. Well, I guess God's going to do something at some point.

Speaker 1:

Our job is to do the best we can and then, as we do the best we can. It's then God who makes up the difference. It's almost like if you're in a financial situation. Your like, if you're in a financial situation, your job is not to quit your job and then just wait at home and go. Well, god's going to make a way. That's not how that works. What we do is we do everything we can, we work as many hours as we can, we're faithful in our job, and then we've done everything we can. We go.

Speaker 1:

God, I have no idea how you're going to do this, but I trust that you are, and then we watch him do the impossible parts. And that's the promise that God has for us. God will keep you in perfect peace. Do you need peace today? Are you worried, anxious, concerned, fearful over something in your life? God promises to keep us in perfect peace If we will put our trust in him and if we will put our focus on him. If you want to experience perfect peace today, decide, make a decision. I'm going to trust the Lord to do the impossible in my life and I'm going to fix my thoughts on him, and part of that is reading God's word every day. When we read his word, it helps us to reorient our mind course correct and come back to knowing him. And when we do that, we're putting our trust in him, we're focusing our thoughts on him, and that's when the peace of God can come into our life.

Speaker 1:

Let's pray together right now, god. Thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that for every problem there's a promise. The challenge is, god, is that we have got to activate your promises in our life, because most of the promises in your word come with a premise, and that is to trust in you. It's to take the step of faith, it's to focus our intentions on you. And so, god, as we go through your word, we're going to eventually cover all of your promises, and I pray that we will see your promises. As for us, and then to see, god, that the key to these promises is to trust you, I pray you'll help us to focus our minds on you today and that your promise, your peace, will flood our hearts. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen, amen. What God's Word says. Another promise of Isaiah 12, verse 2, god has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord is my strength and my song. He has given me victory. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Isaiah 27.
