The More You Dig. The More You Find.
Well, everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today, isaiah, chapter 32, and today's title is Donkeys Eat Free. Speaker 1:The more we dig, the more we find, and, speaking of that, I have had several of you tell me that, hey, I don't really do the Facebook thing. I really like what you're doing, but I don't do Facebook. Is there a way that I can dig deeper? And the answer is yes. If you go to thebiblebreakdowncom, we have got even more resources for you there. We have blog posts about every chapter and what I am hoping to do sometime at the end of next year or close to the end of next year, we're going to be finishing up reading through the Bible together and we get to start over again and we're going to find out just how much richer it is when we do that. But as we do that, my plan is to go back and just to add more and more resources to that. So you want to make sure that you go to thebiblebreakdowncom. You can subscribe there and get every chapter as an email every day and get those blog posts, but keep going back there because we're going to continue to add more and more to it over time.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right, if you have your Bible and want to open up with me to Isaiah 32, don't forget that the overall goal of Isaiah is, or the theme is, that God is our salvation, and Isaiah is just over and over again and you got to realize this is written over the course of Isaiah's life and so he is just constantly coming back and telling the nation of Israel you got to turn back to God and I love that because God gives us time. God gives us time over and over again to turn back to him. God is patient and God is kind. He is also just, so we have to be careful that we don't take advantage of God's grace and mercy, because he's got this big idea for us. He wants great things for us, and we're gonna see that in today's chapter, and another title for it could have been Israel's ultimate deliverance. Right, you know that God will one day take over, and this is what it looks like when Israel is ultimately delivered.
Speaker 1:But one of the things that I love, if you haven't already noticed, is during this time, this was a mostly agrarian type of environment, in other words, agriculture was the main thing agriculture, livestock, all of that. And since many of us and I know we have people listening from all over the world and in your environment you may have, you know, still live mainly with agriculture and all that stuff. But where I live, we have people who are, you know, professional farmers and all of that, but many of us don't live in that world, and so when we talk about, you know, livestock and farming, it doesn't really compute the same. But you're going to see at the end that in this environment, even the donkeys eat free, and so we're going to talk about that and then talk about what the main takeaway is at the end of the chapter. So let's dive in for Israel's ultimate deliverance, or donkeys, eat free.
Speaker 1:With chapter 32, verse one, it says this Look, a righteous king is coming and honest princes will rule under him. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land. Then, everyone who has eyes will be able to see the truth and everyone who has ears will be able to hear it. Even the hotheads will be full of sense and understanding. Those who stammer will speak out plainly.
Speaker 1:In that day, ungodly fools will not be heroes. Scoundrels will not be respected, for fools speak foolishness and make evil plans. They practice ungodliness, they spread false teachings about the Lord, they deprive the hungry of food and give no water to the thirsty. The smooth tricks of scoundrels are evil and they plot crooked schemes. They lie to convict the poor, and even when the cause of the poor is just but generous people plan to do what is generous and they stand firm in their generosity.
Speaker 1:Listen, you women who lie around in ease. Listen to me, you who are smug. In a short time, just a little more than a year, your careless ones will suddenly begin to care For, your fruit crops will fail and your harvest will never take place. Tremble you, women of ease. Throw off your complacency, strip off your pretty clothes and put on burlap to show your grief. Beat your breasts in sorrow for your bountiful farms and your fruitful grapevines, for your land will be overgrown with thorns and briars, your joyful homes and happy towns will be gone. The palace and the city will be deserted and busy towns will be empty. Wild donkeys will frolic and the flocks will graze in the empty forts and watchtowers until, at last, the spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness in the fertile field, and the righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence. Forever, my people will live in safety, quietly, at home. They will be at rest. Even if the forest should be destroyed and the city tore down, the Lord will greatly bless His people. Wherever they plant seed, bountiful crops will spring up. Their cattle and donkeys will graze freely. In other words, even the donkeys eat free.
Speaker 1:What this reminds me of is it reminds me of whenever I would talk to friends of mine who were farmers. If it was a small yield and there wasn't a lot going on, man, they would get so angry when deer and cattle and stuff would wander into their field and eat some of their crops. But every once in a while they would have one of those years when everything was going well and everything was working and they were like, ah, it's fine, there's plenty and some left over, let them eat. Even let the cattle eat free, right? And that's what I think about when it comes to this that when we serve the Lord, not only does it transform our environment, but it even transforms how we perceive our environment. That's what Isaiah is saying in this chapter. He's talking about how there'll be a time when those who seem like everything is going well, man, they're going to start to struggle as we start to see what they're really made of. But then those who trust in the Lord, when they start to see what God is doing, then they will begin to blossom and begin to enjoy what God is doing. So the lesson for us here is to trust the Lord over the long haul.
Speaker 1:Don't get distracted by those who seem to be doing well. Right now we have no idea what's going on in their life. We can look at people's lives sometimes. I've talked to women before who have small children and they look on social media and they see all these mom social media accounts and mom influencers and they can get so discouraged because they think, well, I'm not doing that. Well, the reason you're not doing that is because, number one, they may not be doing that Like we have no idea what's going on in their life, right, they may or may not even be honest about it, or maybe they're in a different season of life, or maybe they're sacrificing the best things to impress everybody else. We have no idea.
Speaker 1:So instead, what we have to do is we have to not depend on what we see with our eyes, but to trust what God is doing. I've seen this happen with men who feel like at this point in my life, I should be further, I should be doing more, I'm not like these other people, and the answer is that the time will come when God will exalt the humble and he will lay low the prideful. You notice, in some of those verses where Isaiah was saying be careful of those who are in ease now, because you may have a difficult life later, but those who trust in the Lord will be exalted. And so what we have to make sure that we do is to trust God, no matter what the circumstance, because ultimately and many times it takes longer than what we would hope but ultimately, god always does the right thing, and I hope that is a word of comfort for you, but also a word of warning. And that is God always does the right thing. But I hope that is a word of comfort for you, but also a word of warning, and that is God always does the right thing.
Speaker 1:But, if I'm honest with you, it almost always takes longer than we wish it would, almost always. We wish God would be a little bit faster than he is, but can I tell you, god is always almost late, but he's always right on time. Trust him. Don't get discouraged with what's going on around us, because in the end, you're going to be so blessed that even the donkeys can eat free. Let's pray together. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, god, that you're with us more than we can see.
Speaker 1:And God, if we're honest, sometimes we get discouraged. We get discouraged because we have an expectation for our life and sometimes things don't always work out the way we would want in the time we would want. Forgive us, lord, for when we get impatient. Help us to trust you and to trust that in the end, you always have our best interest at heart. We celebrate you and that ultimate deliverance is coming. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen, amen. Well, god's Word says in Isaiah 12, verse 2, god has come to save me and I will put my trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord is my strength and my song. He has given me the victory. Amen, amen. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow. For Isaiah, chapter 33.
