What if the noise in your life isn’t chaos but choreography? We open Zechariah 6 and discover four chariots racing out from between bronze mountains, a vision that signals God’s quiet governance across the world. While Judah rebuilds from exile, heaven patrols the earth; justice and peace are on the move even when human eyes can’t track the pattern. This isn’t abstract symbolism for scholars only—it’s a practical invitation to trade the illusion of control for the freedom of trust.

We walk through the text line by line: the red, black, white, and dappled horses; the calm in the north after God’s anger subsides; and the surprise arrival of silver and gold from exiles who fund a striking act of hope. A crown is forged and placed on Joshua the high priest, pointing forward to “the Branch,” a messianic promise that unites priestly care and royal authority. For listeners searching for solid ground, this scene reveals an anchor: God orders the story beyond our horizon, and small acts of obedience plug us into a much bigger plan.

Along the way, we keep the tone grounded and practical. Zechariah isn’t asked to steer chariots or manage donors; he’s told to watch, receive, obey, and trust. That pattern still holds. We talk about resisting anxiety’s pull, choosing integrity over shortcuts, and letting God handle outcomes we can’t control. The result is a steady, resilient hope rooted in Scripture and centered on Jesus, the true Branch who builds a living temple out of people and establishes a kingdom of peace. If you’re craving clarity, calm, and a path you can actually walk today, this conversation will meet you where you are and point you toward the One who holds it all together.

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Zechariah chapter six. And today's title is God Is in Control. God is in control. You ever been somewhere and it just looks like organized chaos? You know, it's just not even organized, just chaos. And then out of nowhere, you start to see a symmetry to this. Like, hey, these people are actually moving in a line here, and those people are moving in a line there. And it actually is not just chaos, it's it's organized. There's a lot more going on here than we realize at first. I think a lot of times our lives are like that. I think that when we look at situations and things, there's chaos to us. But when we step back and look at the whole picture, we go, oh, so God really was doing some things at the time. We just didn't see it. That's why many times you have to look back at our life and see what God has been doing. Because when we're in it, it's too close. It's too personal. It's too present, right? We're going to look at that today. And my hope is that God gives you some encouragement as we look at God's Word. And so if you have your Bibles, open up with me to Zechariah chapter six. While you're doing that, if you're going to take just a moment, be sure, like, share, and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure to leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. And make sure you're going to the Bible breakdown discussion on Facebook. They're doing an amazing job over there. And you can find all of that at the Biblebreakdown.com. Well, as we've been looking through this, we can see that the overall idea of Zechariah is to encourage the people to come on home, to stop thinking themselves as being less than, as being someone that God doesn't love, and just say that you are exactly who God is looking for when it comes to him wanting to establish his people in their homeland again. Because they were in a season where it seemed like so many other nations around them are doing their own thing, they're being blessed, all of that. What about us? And God is saying, I am slowly putting things back in order in more ways than you can see. Now, as we get ready to jump into this, I want to remind us that it is very possible through Zechariah to kind of get lost in the weeds, right? If you've been with us for a while, we read through the book of Revelation, and it was so hard to not get lost in the bold judgments and the trumpet judgments and the seals and all of that stuff to forget about the overarching message, which was Jesus wins. And it was showing how his victory looked, right? Well, in Zechariah, the overall goal is come on home to me. I'm working things out, I'm doing things. And we can get lost sometimes when we're looking at, you know, we talked about yesterday as the flying book, you know, flying scroll, lady in a basket. Today we've got four chariots. You're like, what are we doing? Right. Well, remember, these are metaphors to try to help relate a complex spiritual situation in a way that the people would grab onto. And so we're going to look at this and read this through the lens of the genre it's written, which is apocalyptic literature, metaphors, and see what God's Word will say to us. So if you're ready, here we go. Chapter 6, verse 1 says this. Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming from between the two bronze mountains. The first chariot was pulled by red horses, the second by black horses, the third by white horses, and the fourth by powerful dappled gray horses. What are these, my lord? I asked the angel who talked with me. And the angel replied, These are the four spirits of heaven who stand before the Lord of all the earth. They are going out to do his work. The chariots with black horses are going north, the chariots with white horses is going west, the chariot with the dappled gray horses is going south. The powerful horses were eager to set out to patrol the earth, and the Lord said, Go and patrol the earth. So they left at once on their patrol. Then the Lord summoned me and said, Look, those who went north have vented the anger of my spirit there in the land of the north. Then I received another message from the Lord. Heldeah, Tobajah, and Jediah will bring gifts of silver and gold from the Jews exiled in Babylon. As soon as they arrive, meet them at the home of Josiah, son of Zephaniah. Accept their gifts, and make a crown from silver and gold. Then put the crown on the head of Joshua, the son of Jehosedak, the high priest. Then tell him, This is what the Lord of Heaven's army says. Here is the man called the branch. He will branch out from where he is and build the temple of the Lord. Yes, he will build the temple of the Lord, and then he will receive royal honor and will rule as king from his throne, and he will also serve as priests from his throne, and there will be perfect harmony between his two roles. The crown will be a memorial in the temple of the Lord to honor those who gave it, Hildah, Hotobajah, and Jediah, this and Joash, the son of Zephaniah. People will come from distant lands to rebuild the temple of the Lord, and when this happens, you will know that my messages have been from the Lord of heaven's armies. All this will happen if you carefully obey what the Lord your God says. And so once again we have this illustration. This time it's of four chariots with four horses, and it was a symbol of God sending out his judgment, or to send out, maybe for some places not judgment, but to patrol the area. And what was happening is as that was happening, as God was taking care of all these other things, at the same time, he was reestablishing his kingdom in Jerusalem, and by the way, prophesying for the future coming of Jesus. Jesus is called the branch in other places. And this was a an a messianic prophecy that was both talking about what was going to happen in the moment, but also what was going to happen in the near future. So there's all kinds of stuff happening here, and all of it comes down to God is in control. Like we can't keep up with all of this stuff. I don't know about you, but from time to time I can barely keep up with my daily to-do list. I couldn't come up, I couldn't keep up with all the different things going all the different times and all the different ways and just ah, you know, that's why God's God and we're not, right? We're finite, he's infinite. And so if we try to keep up with every single thing God is doing, we're gonna get lost. But what we can do is we can say, okay, God, I got no idea what those chariots are doing, but I trust you. Only to find out they're actually bringing peace and bringing justice. God, I got no idea what's going on with these guys who are bringing all the silver and gold. God does. God is asking you to take the next step. And then also realize that he's doing even more than you can realize. And so here's here's our takeaway from today. What if God is actually in control? What if what looks like chaos to us is not actually chaos? Do you know on this? God God didn't ask Zechariah to do anything with these horsemen except for report what he saw. He didn't have to get on one, he'd have to ride, just report. Then when he found out that these three guys were coming with silver and gold, he wasn't supposed to contact them and tell them to go get that gold. He wasn't supposed to make sure they met the right place. He just said, Go meet them, make into a crown, give that crown to that person. I'm gonna be the one that's gonna actually restore his authority, do all that kind of stuff. You know, the one thing that God told Zachariah the people had to do, he said, All of this will happen if you carefully obey what the Lord your God says. Here's here's what Jesus said. He said, Who of you by worrying can add a single inch to a statue? Who of you can can do anything like that by yourself? He said, Consider the lilies, the flowers of the field, they neither toil nor spin, yet your heavenly father takes care of each one of them. And if the grass of the field is here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, how much more will your heavenly father take care of you? You seek the kingdom of God, live righteously, and all these things will be added to you. You know what God tells us to do? He says, Listen, your job is to seek my kingdom, live righteously, obey me, and watch how I will take care of you. Does that mean we'll have all of our wants? No. I mean we have all our needs, that's what God's Word says. And so what we do is we trust that what we see is chaos, that God knows exactly what He's doing and what needs to be done. Here's my question for you What would it look like today? If just for today we let God be the King of the Universe. We didn't try to figure it out, we didn't try to plan it out, we didn't try to just hold on to everything. But what if for one day we say, God, you can be the king of the universe? I will take myself off the throne for just 24 hours, Jesus. You can have the throne, and for 24 hours you get to be in charge, and we just trusted God, did the best that we could, but then trusted God with the results. Not only do I think we would sleep better tonight, but I think we would realize he was already in control anyway, and he was already doing a fine job. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you are in control. Now, Lord, in our finite minds, our finite understanding, there's so many times that it doesn't look like it because we can't comprehend the infinite. We can't comprehend all the other things that you are doing. But we trust you. We trust that you are doing more than we can ever understand. I pray that as we trust you, you'll open our eyes to see you more clearly every day. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And amen, what God's Word says in Zechariah 1, verse 3, it says, Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of heaven's armies. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Zechariah chapter six.
