A humble King on a donkey doesn’t look like the end of oppression—until you hear Zechariah 9 through fresh ears. We walk through this vivid chapter where God confronts proud nations, promises protection, and announces a ruler whose power brings peace, not more weapons. The arc runs from cities that trust their fortresses to a people invited home, freed from waterless dungeons, and restored to beauty and abundance.

We sit with the tension: enemies still exist, but the outcome changes when the King takes his rightful place. That’s the heart of the prophecy fulfilled in Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem—righteous, victorious, yet humble. We explore how that paradox reshapes our view of strength, justice, and daily courage. Instead of fleeing hardship, we face it with a steadier center. Instead of magnifying fear, we magnify God. A simple story about kids waiting for their dad becomes a lived parable: when your focus is on the One who loves you, lesser worries fade to the edges.

You’ll hear clear, practical takeaways: how to return and recentre when life drifts, how hope reframes the battles you still have to fight, and how God’s justice makes room for peace to grow. We highlight the promise of double blessing for those who cling to hope and the vision of a community that sparkles like jewels under God’s care. If you’re feeling boxed in by fear or worn out by the news, this is a call to enlarge your view of God and watch your burdens lose their grip.

Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Zechariah chapter 9. And today's title is The King is Coming Home. The King is coming home. It's kind of the same idea as yesterday, only it's going to take it even further and just celebrate the return of the King. And it's going to be awesome. I can't wait to dive into it. So if you want to get your Bibles out with me, we're going to get into Zechariah chapter 9. While you're doing that, as always, take just a moment, hit the pause button, like, share, and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure to leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. You are always going to be my OG favorites. Sorry, YouTube guys. I love you. They're my OGs. Also, make sure everybody gathers together at the Bible Breakdown Discussion on Facebook. This amazing group of people doing a wonderful job. And you can get links and access to all of that at the BibleBreakdown.com. Well, I love this idea of the king coming on home because that's what he has been calling on them to do throughout this entire book is that, man, it is time to come home. It is time to come back to me, to rebuild the temple as a spiritual kind of recentering of the nation. And it's just, it's just time to come home. And I love that he is letting them know it's not just on them, but he is coming back to them. And so we're going to j dive right into this, and we're going to start with how he is going to be showing judgment toward these hostile nations. And then he's going to talk about the coming home of the king. So if you're ready, here we go. Zechariah chapter nine, verse one says this. Doom is certain for Hamath near Damascus, and for the cities of Tyre and Sidon, though they are so clever. Tyre has built a strong fortress, and has made silver and gold as plentiful as the dust in the streets. But now the Lord will strip away Tyre's possessions and hurl it its fortifications into the sea, and it will be burned to the ground. The city of Ashkelon will see Tyre fall and will be filled with fear. Gaza will shake with terror, as will Ekron, for their hopes will be dashed. Gaza's king will be killed. Ashkelon will be deserted. Foreigners will occupy the city of Ashdod. I will destroy the pride of the Philistines. I will grab the bloody meat from their mouths and snatch the detestable sacrifices from their teeth. That's gross. Then the surviving Philistines will worship our God and become like a clan of Judah. The Philistines of Ekron will join my people as the ants as the ancient Jebusites once did, and I will guard my temple and protect it from evading armies, and I am watching closely to ensure that no more foreign oppressors overrun my people's land. Now here we go, verse nine. Rejoice, O people of Zion, shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem. Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet humble, riding on a donkey, riding on a donkey's colt. Now pause. Do you know where that comes from? That is fulfilled when Jesus has what is called a triumphant entry. When he walks, or excuse me, he rides in on the full of a donkey into the city of Jerusalem, the week of his crucifixion. So that is fulfilled in the New Testament by Jesus. All right, verse 10. I will remove the battle chariots from Israel and the war horses from Jerusalem. I will destroy all the weapons used in battle, and your king will bring peace to the nations. His realm will stretch from sea to sea, from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. But of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood, I will free your prisoners, from the death in the waterless dungeon. Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have hope. I promise this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles. Judah is my bow, Israel is my arrow, Jerusalem is my sword, and like an army, I will brandish it against the Greeks. The Lord will appear above his people, his arrows will fly like lightning. The sovereign Lord will sound the ram's horn and attack like a whirlwind from the south southern desert. The Lord of heaven's armies will protect his people, and they will defeat their enemies by hurling great stones. They will shout in battle as though drunk with wine. They will be filled with blood like a bowl, drenched with blood like the corners of the altar, and on that day the Lord their God will rescue his people, just as a shepherd rescues his sheep. They will sparkle in the land, and like jewels in a crown, how beautiful, how wonderful and beautiful they will be. The young men will thrive on abundant grain, and the young women will flourish on new wine. In other words, nobody's gonna bully them anymore. No more will they be the ones that are getting picked on, but they are gonna finally receive their turn at justice. Why? Because daddy's home. Because the king has come home. You know what it reminds me of is one time I needed to take a trip with a friend of mine, and we decided we were gonna meet at his house. And from there, he and I were gonna carpool, he was gonna drive, and then you know, we'd come back and I'd I'd go home. And when we got back, the my friend's wife and children were outside and they were playing and all that. And as soon as I got out, his kids got so excited. They were so excited to see me. And so they were they were just waving and they were just so excited and all this. And I was like, man, they don't know me really that well, and they're really excited to see me. And then all of a sudden I realized, wait a minute, they're not here to see me. They're not excited to see me because right behind me was my friend, and he was just a waving. And there's like that embarrassed moment at first where you know it's like, oh, but then it was like, this is the sweetest thing ever. Like they saw him this morning, but they're acting like he's been on like a week-long trip. And it was the sweetest thing ever that they were so excited to see their daddy that they didn't even see me. I was in the way, right? And I think that sometimes that is why God puts things like this in his word for us. It's because in this life we will have trouble. In this life, there will be difficulty, but we can get so excited at a vision of who God is, and to see that in the time of Zechariah, God was saying, I'm going to take care of you. And he does. I'm going to do amazing things that the bullied will be able to stand up for themselves because I'm going to give them strength. And when we see God do that, and we see not only was he doing that, but he was also making a prophecy about himself in the future. And when we get such a vision of who God is, and that the king is coming home, that sometimes the things that we go through, man, they're not even there. They they they're they're in the way, but we don't even see them because we have such a vision of who God is. And so I'm gonna ask you this question today. I I I don't know what may be going on in your life and what you may have going on, and I'm sure it's difficult and it's hard, and I I I'm not in any way trying to minimize your problems or what you're going through. I'm just trying to maximize our vision of God. What would your problems look like if you doubled your idea of who God was? To realize he is not just a king, he is the king of kings. And that when when the king comes home, when the king is made lord of our life, and we remind ourselves that he is in control, what would that do to all the problems that you face today? Would it make them a little bit lighter? Would it make them a little bit smaller to realize that the king is in control? That doesn't mean we're not gonna have problems. You notice how they're still gonna have to fight these enemies. It's just they're gonna win. What would that look like for us if we knew we're still gonna have to fight some enemies today? By God's grace, we're gonna win. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you are so amazing. You are above all, you are doing more. And Lord, we just rest in the promise of who you are. I pray today, God, that you will help us to get such a vision of who you are that it will make everything else seem small in comparison. For the King is coming to us. I'm thankful for you today. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Anyway, what God's Word says is Zechariah 1, verse 3 says, Return to me, and I will return to you. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Zechariah chapter 10.
