What if the light you’re waiting for has already started to rise? We walk through Zechariah 14 and watch a bleak scene of siege and fear crack open into a landscape of continuous day, living waters, and a city raised and made safe. This is not fantasy; it’s the biblical pattern of judgment giving way to joy, where God confronts evil and then fills ordinary life with holiness until even cookware and horse bells bear His name.

We start with the hard words: nations gather, homes are plundered, and panic spreads. Then the turning point arrives—the Lord stands on the Mount of Olives, splits a valley for escape, and establishes a reign that reframes time itself. From there we trace the flow of renewal: water reaching both the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean, worship drawing the nations, and holiness no longer bound to the temple but flooding streets, kitchens, and daily routines. Along the way, we address why a small, post-exilic people could trust a promise bigger than empires and how that same trust speaks to our own seasons of discouragement.

You’ll hear practical takeaways: how “wait and see” becomes an active discipline, why coming home to God starts with one honest step, and how to carry sacred purpose into unremarkable moments. We share a personal story that captures the heart of Zechariah’s refrain—sometimes the clearest invitation is simply, watch and see. If you’re longing for a faith that faces reality yet refuses despair, this conversation offers sturdy hope.

Well everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Zechariah chapter 14. And today's title is Watch and See. Watch and see. It's a great finale of an amazing book of the Bible, and we're going to jump right into it. So get your Bibles out with me. Open up to Zachariah chapter 14. And while you're doing that, as always, make sure you take just a moment, like, share, subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. And make sure you're going to the Bible breakdown discussion on Facebook. There's an amazing group of people doing a wonderful job and just constantly encouraging us and challenging us by helping us dig into God's Word a little bit more. And you can get all that information at the Biblebreakdown.com. Well, if you've been with us, we have been walking through the book of Zechariah, and Zechariah's really main message is this idea of come on home. These people in Israel, they had come back from their exile. They were discouraged. They didn't really know who they are and what they were what they were doing. And throughout this book, you can see how God is taking them on this journey of coming back to Him and coming back to this relationship with Him. Well, now as we finish up with the final chapter, God is finishing it off with a bang, and He's talking about in chapter 14 this idea of what's coming. This idea of the goodness of God is going to continue to overflow, and you haven't seen the end, it's only the beginning. Watch and see. And so for all the skeptical people that were there, all the people that didn't know what was going to happen, it was like, you just better get ready, because this is what's coming. So let's read this together. Zechariah 14, verse 1 says this. For the day of the Lord is coming when your possessions will be plundered right in front of you. I will gather all the nations to fight against Jerusalem. The city will be taken, the houses looted, the women raped. Half the population will be taken into captivity, and the rest will be left among the ruins of the city. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations as he has fought in times past. That day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will split apart, making a wide valley running from east to west. Half the mountain will move toward the north and half toward the south. You will flee through this valley, for it will reach across to Azal. Yes, you will flee as you did from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all his holy ones with him. On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, yet there will be continuous day. Only the Lord knows how this could happen. There will be no normal day or night, for at evening there will still be light, and on that day life giving waters will flow out of Jerusalem, to half toward the Dead Sea and half toward the Mediterranean, flowing continuously in both summer and winter, and the Lord will be king over all the earth. And on that day there will be one Lord, and his name alone will be worshipped. All the land of Gabea, north of Judah, to Riman, south of Jerusalem, will become one vast plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up in its original place, and will be inhabited all the way from the Benjamin gate over to the site of the old gate, then to the corner gate and from the tower of Hanal to the king's wine presses. And Jerusalem will be filled, safe at last, never again to be cursed and destroyed, and the Lord will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like walking corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths, and on that day they will be terrified, stricken by the Lord with great panic, and they will fight their neighbors hand to hand. Judah too will be fighting at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the neighboring nations will be captured, great quantities of gold and silver and fine clothing. The same plague will strike the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the other animals in the enemy camps. And in the end, the enemies of Jerusalem who survived the plague will go up to Jerusalem each year to worship the king, the Lord of Heaven's armies, and to celebrate the festival of shelters. Any nation in the world that refuses to come to Jerusalem to worship the king, the Lord of Heaven's armies, will have no rain. If the people of Egypt refuse to attend the festival, the Lord will punish them, and the same plague that He sends on the other nations who refuse to go. Egypt and the other nations will all be punished if they don't go to celebrate the festival shelters. And on that day even the harness bells of the horses will be inscribed with these words holy to the Lord. And the cooking pots in the temple of the Lord will be as sacred as the basins used beside the altar. In fact, every cooking pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord of Heaven's armies. All who come to worship will be free to use any of these pots to boil their sacrifices. And on that day there will no longer be traitors in the temple of the house of the he of the Lord of Heaven's armies. And so what you have here is you have this glorious ending that's saying that pretty much everything will be touched with the goodness of God, that all of the enemies will be vanquished and destroyed, and the goodness of God will come and will take over everything, and that even the most common things will be full of the goodness and glory of God. And so he's just saying, wait and see. Because this would have seemed like such a I mean, at this point, you've got, you know, Persia is just taking over everything, and and Israel seems like such a small, minor, just nothing in this vast world. And he's saying, you wait and see. The most impossible thing is going to happen, and that is that our God, who truly is king over all, is going to flourish, and he is going to make it so that the most insignificant little country is going to be the center of it all for his glory. And he's saying, You wait and see. It reminds me of when uh several years ago there was a movie that came out, and at the time, my my family and I, we were on vacation, and we used to have these things where you could get like this one pass, movie pass, and everybody could go watch the movie for free, right? And I was actually sick on this trip, and I was sick and I was in bed and I was trying my best to sleep. And while I was trying to sleep, my my wife and two girls, they come in and they are just yelling and screaming and happy and excited, like, Dad, we just watched the best movie ever. And I mean, I'm I got like the flu. Like, I'm so sick. I'm at that point where I'm not contagious anymore, but I still feel terrible, right? And I'm like, oh my goodness, I'm sure it was great. Go away. Let me go to sleep. No, Dad, you got to understand, it's just great. And so I just said that that's wonderful and went to bed. The next day, they loved it so much they went to watch it again. And they come back in, and they're even more excited. And at this point, I'm like, okay, I've I've got to see this. And so as soon as I can literally get up the next day, I go watch it with them. And I remember sitting in that theater, and it was about to begin, and I was like, How is it possible that you guys could love this movie this much that you were now sitting to watch this for the third time? And all they could say was, wait and see. Wait and see, watch what happens. Wait and see, watch what happens. And then the movie started, and it was awesome. It was an amazing movie. And so that next time we all came home, I was one of them, yelling, screaming, going, That was the best movie ever. But it was like they were so confident that they were like, I don't even want to explain it. Just wait and see. Just wait and see. And you know what I love about God? I love that that's kind of what Zachariah was doing. Is he was saying, I'm gonna tell you something, it's gonna be like this, it's gonna be like that, all this other stuff. And here's the thing when nobody believes you, all you gotta do is just say, wait and see. Wait and see. I trust the Lord, wait and see. And do you know one of the most frustrating but encouraging things is when you go talk to somebody who's been a Christian for a while, I want to encourage you. When you get discouraged, when you've got something that you don't understand, you can't figure out, it's if it feels like you you know God's is going to be faithful, but you just can't figure it out right now. Go talk to somebody who's been a Christian for a while. And you know what they'll tell you most of the time is it will be so frustrating but encouraging, is they'll say, in some form or fashion, wait and see. I'm telling you, God will be faithful. I don't understand, Mr. or Miss, whatever. Wait and see. Watch and see. Watch and see what the Lord does. Because you know what's happened? Is they have been walking with God long enough that they have seen God do the impossible over and over and over again until now they don't wonder if they're just looking for when and where. They know God's gonna be faithful, but they don't see how yet. Just wait and see. Just watch and see. As we finish Zachariah together, I want to encourage you to do two things. Number one is wherever you are, whatever you're doing, take a moment today and say, God, is there any other place where I need to come home to you? Is there an area of my life that you would challenge me to get closer to you? And then whatever that is, take the next step. And then the next thing is, is what if you were the the watch and see, the wait and see person? What if you took a moment to think about the goodness of God and you just trusted him? So that when somebody else comes to you and they just say, I don't understand why bad things happen here, that happens there, what if you were that person who just said, Watch and see, wait and see. I don't understand either. I have no idea why God does what he does, the way he does it, and I'm glad for that because I'm not God and he is. So if I understand all the things of God all the time, that he ceases to be God, because now he can fit inside my head. There's some things that I just don't understand. But I I trust him. So wait, wait and see. Watch and see, and watch what the Lord will do. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that we can just watch and wait and see. Because you are faithful. But we don't always understand, but we trust you. We trust that you are doing more than we can ever figure out on our own. Thank you, Jesus, for loving us the way you do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And amen. God's word says in Zechariah 9, verse 9, he says, Rejoice greatly. See your king comes to you, righteous and victorious. Praise the Lord. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for the next part of the Bible Breakdown Podcast.
