God doesn’t introduce the tabernacle as a religious project. He introduces it as a relationship promise: “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them.” Exodus 25 is where worship stops being an abstract idea and becomes a moving, day to day reality for people living in the wilderness. I walk through the chapter and show how every detail pushes toward one big theme: God wants to be close, not distant.

We talk about the freewill offerings and why God receives gifts from hearts that are moved, not arms that are twisted. We also unpack the repeated command to build everything according to the pattern shown on the mountain, because worship is shaped by obedience, not personal preference. Then we spend time with the Ark of the Covenant, the mercy seat, and the meaning of atonement before Jesus, along with why Scripture is so serious about never touching the ark and what that reveals about holiness and protection.

From there, we look at the table of the bread of the presence as a picture of fellowship, and the golden lampstand, the menorah, as a steady source of light. But the heartbeat of the message is practical: God chooses to put His tent in the middle of His people. He doesn’t stay on Sinai while they struggle through decades of desert. If you’re walking through a lonely season, a hard conversation, single parenting pressure, burnout at work, or a classroom you dread, this chapter offers a grounded hope: you’re not doing it alone.

SPEAKER_00

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Exodus chapter 25, and today's title is The Beginning of the Tabernacle. The Beginning of the Tabernacle. One of the things I love about the next few chapters we're going to get into is that God is setting up a house of worship, a place where the people can connect and meet with God. And there's so much symbology in here that we get to see throughout the rest of the Bible. And it's interesting because I'm curious as we read this, how many things will you see that you'll be like, wait a minute, I feel like I've heard that before. And the reality is that you have. But this is where it all began is back with the beginning of the tabernacle, the pattern that God gave Moses. And a pattern is something that has an original that exists someplace else. We're going to get all that in just a moment. I can't wait. Make sure you get your Bibles, get your coffee, get whatever it is you got to get, but also make sure you get on like, sharing, and subscribing to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Did you like that segue? That was me doing my best, all right? Make sure you leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. And make sure you're going to the Bible breakdown discussion on Facebook. That's an amazing group of people doing a wonderful job. And as always, you can get all the information at the Biblebreakdown.com because the more we dig, the more we find.

From Sinai To Tabernacle Plans

SPEAKER_00

Well, if you've been with us for a while, we have been on this amazing journey that culminated with the people of Israel going to Mount Sinai. They see God descend on the mountain. And in that moment, God calls Moses up. He gives them the Ten Commandments. We arguably could say the first five is how we are to honor God. The second five is how we are to honor one another. And then he gives them kind of a commentary on this is what it looks like to honor God, what it looks like to honor one another. And then the last chapter, then God invites more of the people of God up on the mountain. But then he calls Moses even higher, and he stays with God for 40 days and 40 nights. What we're going to find today is some of what God shares with him while he's there, and then teaches him how to build a house for people to connect with God.

Offerings And The Mountain Pattern

SPEAKER_00

So if you're ready, Exodus 25, verse 1 says this. Accept the contributions from all of those whose hearts are moved to offer them. Here is a list of the sacred offerings that you may accept from them: gold, silver, bronze, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, goat hair for cloth, tanned ramskin, and fine goat leather, acacia wood, olive oil for lamps, spices for the anointing oil, and fragrant incense, onyx stones and other gemstones to be set in the ephod, that's priestly garments, and the priest chess piece. Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. Pause. Why did God build the tabernacle? He said, I want to live among them. You must build this tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern, pattern that I will show you. Pause. A pattern is a is an example of how to create something from an original. So I want you to think about that. All right, verse 10.

The Ark And The Mercy Seat

SPEAKER_00

Have the people make the ark of acacia wood, sacred chest, 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, 27 inches high. Overlay it inside and outside with pure gold, and run a molding of gold all around it. Cast four gold rings and attach them to its four feet, two rings on each side, and make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. Insert the poles into the rings at the sides of the ark to carry it. These carrying poles must stay inside the rings and never remove them. When the ark is finished, place inside it the stone tablets inscribed in the with the terms of the covenant, which I will give you. Then make the ark's cover, a place of atonement for pure gold or of pure gold. It must be forty-five inches long and twenty-seven inches wide. Then make two cherubim of hammered gold and place them on the two ends of the atonement cover. Mold the cherubim on each end of the atonement cover, making it all one piece of gold. The cherubim will face each other and look down on the atonement cover. With their wings, they'll spread above it, they will protect it. Place inside the ark the stone tablets, inscribe with the terms of the covenant, which I will give you. Then put the atonement cover over the top of the ark. I will meet you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover between the gold cherubim that hover over the ark of the covenant. From there I will give you my commands for the people of Israel. Pause. This will become, the Ark of the Covenant will become the centerpiece of worship and for the tabernacle. And here's the reason why. It was a symbol of where God would dwell because the way the wings that he just described, the way that they would meet in the middle, created what looked like a throne, a seat. And that's why it was called the mercy seat. Whenever they would sacrifice for the uh atonement for the forgiveness of sins of the people before Jesus came, they would sprinkle blood on the mercy seat. And so God said, I will sit figuratively and meet with the people. So it wasn't the ark that they worshiped, it was the one the ark symbolized that they worshiped. But here's one of the things that's really cool about the ark. The Bible says later, never touch the ark. If you touch the ark, you will die. And for a long time, people were like, Why is that? I mean, is God like just really particular about his things? You know, is that kind of how that works? And then there's a place in the Old Testament, a little bit later on, where a guy named Uzzah touches the ark to steady it and he dies. And the Bible said that when it happened, David was terrified because of what had happened. Well, electricians and electrical engineers have looked at the way the ark was made. And then when they got to looking at this, they said, you know what that does? That creates an electrical current. The way the wood and the gold and the way that is all that, the way that is encased, that becomes a conductor. And what a lot of people think now would happen is if you put all that together, it would eventually, especially being out in the sun the way it was, and you know, when they would be traveling with it, is it actually would create an electrical charge. And so, and if you touched it, it would discharge, and if and if you touched it the right way, it could electrocute you and you would die. And so God says, put poles on this thing, don't touch the ark, because it will kill you if you touch it the right way. And it's and that doesn't mean that everything that God has here is is only has natural answers. There's supernatural answers as well. But just looking at it, you go, Wow, turns out God knew exactly what he was talking about. And he says, It is here that I will meet with you. All right, verse 23.

Menorah And Bread Of Presence

SPEAKER_00

Then make a table of acacia wood, 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, 27 inches high, and overlay it with pure gold and run gold molding around the edge. Decorate it with a three-inch border all around and run a gold molding all around the border. Make four gold rings for the table and attach them to the four corners next to the four legs. Attach the rings near the border to hold the poles that they are used to carry the table. Make these poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. Make special containers of pure gold for the table, bowls, ladles, pitchers, and jars to be used in the pouring out of liquid offerings. The bread, place the bread of the presence on the table to remain before me at all times. Pause. Now the reason why he wanted to use acacia wood is acacia wood actually was much, much longer lasting. It wasn't brittle, it was very hard wood, and it would be able to survive for a really, really long time. That's the reason why acacia wood was important. Verse 31 Make a lampstand of pure gold, hammered gold. Make the entire lampstand and its decorations of one piece. The base, the center stem, the lamp cups, the buds, and the petals. Make it with each branch, six branches going out from the center stem, three on each side. Each of the six branches will have three lamp cups shaped like almond blossoms, complete with buds and petals. Craft the center stem of the lamb stem with four lamp cups shaped like almond blossoms, complete with buds and petals. There will also be an almond bud beneath each pair of branches where the six branches extend from the center stem. The almond buds and branches must be of one piece with the center stem, and they must be hammered from pure gold. Then make the seven lamps for the lamb stem and set them so that they will reflect light forward. The lamp snuffers and trays must be made of pure gold. You will need 75 pounds of pure gold, that's a lot of gold, for the lampstand and its accessories. Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have shown you here on the mountain.

God Shares Your Wilderness

SPEAKER_00

Now, I want to show you one of the things. I'm gonna use this little space right here. What God is slowly doing is he is slowly but surely constructing the tabernacle. And what he is doing right now is he is making the furniture of the tabernacle that will eventually be filled up with the other things. And so right now, he just got through making the ark, which will be the centerpiece, and then he makes what will later be called the menorah, that's what the lampstand is, and then he's making another table that's called the bread of the presence, and is a symbol of fellowship with God. And God is slowly but surely making different places or making different objects of worship because he wants to have fellowship with his people. Remember, all the way back at one of the first verses of the chapter, it says, Make a tabernacle so I can be with my people. Make a tabernacle so I can be with my people. And one of the things that God was trying to instill among the people is, I want to be right in the middle of what you're doing. So I don't want you to get in your mind that you are going to leave Mount Sinai and you leave me behind. I'm going with you. And I'm going to set up my tent just like you. Because you got to think about all of these people, they're living in tents. And God is saying, I'm going to have a tent as well. I want to have a place where you and I can meet. I want to be part of your life every single day. I don't know if you've ever thought about that before, but it was lost on me for a long time that when the nation of Israel goes through 40 years in the wilderness, they don't go through it alone. God stays with them. The Bible doesn't say that he told Moses, Well, listen, pack up my tabernacle, and when they finally get into Canaan land, come back and see me. No. God was with them every single day they were in the wilderness. And he said, If you're in the wilderness, I'm in the wilderness with you. When we go to Canaan, we will do that together as well. And can I tell you, there have been seasons in my life, and I know you've probably been like this too, where even if it wasn't true, it felt like you were all alone. It felt like nobody understood, nobody could walk with you, nobody knew what was going on. You ever been like that? Yeah, it doesn't mean that it's true, but it doesn't stop it from feeling that way. You know what's amazing? Is when you were in your darkest moment, God says, I'm there too. I'm gonna walk with you. No matter how hard it is, no matter how difficult it is, I will be right in this wilderness with you. And that's what God is teaching or telling Moses is He is saying, I want to be with my people. You're in the wilderness right now. That's exactly where I want to be. I'm not gonna stay in a mountain somewhere and you come see me on occasion. Every time you wake up, I want you to see me. When you're going to bed at night, I want you to see me. I want to be with you. Can I tell you, God wants to be like that in our lives? He doesn't just want to have a Sunday romance. He doesn't want to just be the counselor that you come talk to when you have problems. He wants to be the companion that you wake up beside, you go to sleep beside, you think about during the day, you have conversation with, that you're constantly doing life with. God wants to do life with you. Are there areas and places in your life where you feel like you're alone right now? Can I give you the best news ever? You're not. If you have a relationship with Jesus, you're never alone. God's with you. What would it do to your day today if you realized that when you walk into that difficult conversation, you're not walking in alone. When you're having to step in and be the mother and the father because you're trying to raise your kids by yourself, you're not alone. When you're having to go back into that classroom and you really don't want to because not everybody in there is nice to you, you're not doing it alone. When you have to work that overtime because you're trying to find a way to make it all make sense and you feel like that nobody appreciates you and nobody whatever, you're not doing that alone. God is with you. And he is building his house in your life. He's building a way for your for you to connect with him more

every day. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you're with us. You never leave us, you're always for us, you're always moving in our lives in more ways than we can understand. And God, I pray that as we continue to read through Exodus, you will help us to see that just like you were with them, you're with us in all things. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Anyway, God's word says in Exodus 6, verse 6, he says, I will free you from your oppression and I will rescue you from slavery. I'm so thankful to serve a God of freedom. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Exodus chapter 26.
