Psalm 05: God Hears Us

Well, good morning, everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter five. And today's title is God Hears Us. God Hears Us. Well, if you notice, I said good morning because this is actually a morning psalm that you were to, if you're going to sing it, the best time to sing it was in the morning. So we're going to act like it's morning around here, no matter what time you are paying attention to it. We're going to sing for some some good news around here because it's going to start bad. It's going to get good. We're going to have a good time today. So make sure you get your Bibles, get your Bible journals, get your flutes out because that's what this was meant to be played with. Psalm 5 As A Morning Song

Well, if you've been with us, we have been slowly beginning the journey of going through the book of Psalms, and we're calling it the soundtrack of life. And one of the things I love about the Psalms is it goes over about a thousand years, and it was the greatest hits of the people of God. And it covers all situations, circumstances, emotions. And today is one of those. Today was a psalm written by David, and it was considered to be a song best sung in the morning. And not only that, but it was also meant to talk about the joy that comes to the faithful. And it was meant to also be accompanied by flutes. So it was a very particular kind of sound they were going for. And it reminds me of you ever seen how or noticed how different songs or different uh eras have different genres of music and different things. Like the 80s are known for their synths and all this kind of stuff. And then, you know, you got hip-hop has a certain kind of feel to it. And then you got like orchestra music, certain feel to it. Well, this was like maybe the synth of the time of David, a very particular sound that they are going for. And in my mind, a flute, and I have this is just the way my imagination works. The flute is intended to make this feel more lively and more upbeat. So we're going to read this normally, but even though it's going to begin on some negative themes, it's meant to be sung in the morning. So it's like, you know, if you're with us yesterday, it's Psalm 4, we're kind of putting it all down. We're trusting God with it. This morning, you know, in the morning, we're picking it back up again, going, okay, God, today's a new day to conquer all my enemies.

So if you're ready, Psalm 5, verse 1 says this. Oh Lord, hear me as I pray. Pay attention to my groanings. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God. For I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my request to you and I wait patiently, or expectantly, rather. Oh God, you take no pleasure in wickedness. You cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence. For you hate all who do evil. You destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house. I will worship at your temple with deepest awe. Lead me in the path, right path, O Lord, or my enemies will conquer me. Make your way plain for me to follow. My enemies cannot speak a truthful word. Their deepest desire is to destroy others. Their talk is foul like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with flattery. O God, declare them guilty. Let them be caught in their own traps, drive them away because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. But let all who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord, and you surround them with your shield of love.

Trusting God With Today’s Battles

So David gets up in the morning and he's like, Oh, yep, all these enemies are still here, but you know who else is still here? You, God. So, God, I'm trusting in you. I'm asking you to do what you want to do with them, but also protect me with your love. What a wonderful prayer that would be. Remember, Psalms is here to help us to be able to relate to God. What a wonderful prayer is a prayer of trust. God, I know you're going to be faithful. I'm waking up and you know what? Yeah, I do see all my enemies are still here, but I see you're still here too. You didn't leave in the night, but you've been working in more ways than I can imagine. So I trust you to keep on working. What would it look like every morning if you got up and you said, Yes, God, I got that hard meeting to have today. Yes, I got those toddlers, and this is a season. Yes, I'm going through that difficult season with my spouse. Yes, all that is true. But you know what else is true? God is here, God is with me. And because God is here and God is with me, anything is possible. I bet you and I would have a better day if we gave it first thing in the morning

to the Lord. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. God, we do just that right now. We give this day to you. We know, God, that we have problems, we have things, but we've also got you. And so we put our hope and our trust in you today. Thank you for loving us the way you do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Amen. Well, God's word says in Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I love you.
