Someone lies about you, twists your motives, or stirs up conflict and suddenly your chest is tight and your mind is racing. We’ve all been there. Psalm 7 gives us words for that exact moment, and it also gives us a path forward that doesn’t poison our peace.

We’re continuing our walk through the Psalms as a soundtrack for real life, and Pastor Brandon breaks down David’s prayer when he’s absolutely done with the lying. David doesn’t hide his frustration. He asks God for protection, calls out evil for what it is, and then does a surprising thing: he invites God to examine him first. That mix of honesty and humility is a steady guide when we feel attacked, misunderstood, or tempted to fire back.

Then we bring it home with a simple practice you can use today. Before you post, before you rant, before you try to carry it by yourself, take it to God. Tell Him everything that’s on your mind, even the petty stuff, and then end where Psalm 7 ends: with trust and praise. If you’ve been holding onto the need to prove yourself or get even, this is your reminder that freedom starts when you leave it with Him.

Psalm 7 When Folks Be Lion

SPEAKER_01

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter seven, and today's title is When Folks Be Lion. When folks be lying. This song written by David, it reminds me of, okay, none of us listening to this or watching this have ever done this. Okay. We're just going to say we've never done this. But have you ever seen one of those people who they get on social media and they will go on this long rant and they'll say, I'm not mentioning any names, but some of y'all fools need to quit lying up in here. I mean, you know, they just do everything but saying somebody's name. And if you know them, you know exactly who they're talking about. But since they don't say the name, they can say, I don't know what you're talking about. But it's just people get tired of lies and they just need to tell somebody. And what David teaches us is it is absolutely okay to get tired of people lying. Just make sure you're telling the right someone. And we're gonna hit all that in

Psalms As A Soundtrack For Life

SPEAKER_01

Well, if you've been with us for the past couple of days, we are really diving into what we're calling a soundtrack for life. We're going through the book of Psalms one chapter at a time and remembering that this was the song, the psalm book of the people of God. It was actually five psalm books of the people of God, all the way from the time of Moses till the time of Malachi. And they are just collected. These are the greatest hits of the people of God. Almost half of them are written by David. And I love that. And honestly, I wonder if by the time we are finished, if you will have a very different idea about who David is, to realize that yes, he's the king. Yes, God used him in so many ways, but he was human. He got tired of people. He got upset with himself. All these different things would happen. And today's one of those days where he is absolutely done with the lion. So this is during a time when apparently there's a lot of um just backbiting, just political intrigue is going on, and David has just had enough. And I can't help but wonder. Like, like, think of the Bible with skin on it, right? I can't help but wonder if David is, you know, he's he's there and he's singing his song and he's starting to talk about this. And there's a few folks who start looking around because they're going, um, I think he's talking about George, don't you? And I think I think Bob must Bob must have crossed that line. I don't know. So let's read this and let's see what God's Word has to say and see what it will teach us about how we can relate to God as

Reading Psalm 7 For Justice

SPEAKER_01

well. Here we go. Psalm chapter 7, verse 1 says this I come to you for protection, O Lord my God. Save me from my persecutors, rescue me. If you don't, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me. O Lord my God, if I have done wrong or I am guilty of injustice, if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause, let my enemies capture me, let them trample me into the ground and drag my honor in the dust. Interlude. In other words, ban play. Verse six, arise, O Lord, in anger, stand up against the fury of my enemies, wake up, my God, and bring justice. Gather the nations before you, rule over from high from on high. The Lord judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O Lord, for I am innocent, O Most High. End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God. God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day. If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword, he will bend and string his bow, and he will prepare his deadly weapons, and shoot his flaming arrows. The wicked shall conceive evil and the pregnant and will be pregnant and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others, and they fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them, and the violence they plan falls on their own heads. I will thank the Lord because he is just, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.

Take The Hurt To God First

SPEAKER_01

Do you notice how this psalm goes? It starts with, God, I'm gonna need your help. And then he goes into because all these folks are crazy. These folks be lying, these folks trying to do evil. I mean, he he is like old school country preacher hacking. You know what I mean? And they're gonna die. And this is gonna happen. I mean, he's doing all of that, and then he comes back around to, but you know what, God, I'm thankful for you. I'm thankful you are with us and you are for us. And so, what a wonderful example for us. Because remember, the book of Psalms teaches us how to relate to God. And so when you have somebody that you feel like you're being misrepresented or you feel like evil is all around you, you know what God tells us to do? Bring it to me. Don't take it to social media. Don't take it to somebody who can't do anything about it. I mean, it's okay to take it to them eventually, but first take it to take it to God and say, God, first of all, I know you got this. I know you are bigger than I am. And then you just let him have it. And I mean as then tell him everything. I'm gonna tell you they did this, I'm gonna tell you they did that, and they cut me off in traffic, and my coffee was cold. I mean, you tell them everything, and then you end with, but you know what, God? You're in control. I'm thankful for you, and I trust you. In other words, you leave it there with him. Here's my question. What do you need to leave with God today? What are you what have you been carrying or you've been done wrong? Something bad happened to you, but you thought that you were gonna get them back by carrying it yourself. How's that working for you? Instead, what if you took it to God? You you trust him, you tell him the truth, and then you give it to him and end your day. What would the rest of your day look like if right now you stopped and you gave to God all the things that's bothering your heart?

Prayer To Leave It With Him

SPEAKER_01

Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you see us and that you know us, and that God, what you want for us is nothing less than complete freedom. I know I I know as we live in this world, God, we will experience difficult times, but we know that you are greater than that. I pray that as we come to you with all of our hearts and we tell you everything on our minds, Lord, that we will leave it there with you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Final Blessing And Tomorrow’s Psalm

unknown

And amen.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Psalm 31, verse 1 says, say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth. There's always a new reason to give God praise. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Psalm chapter eight.
