The Bible Breakdown: Daily Bible Reading
Psalm 09: God Defends The Weak
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When you watch innocent people get hurt, it can feel like the world is upside down. We sit with that tension and let Psalm 9 do what it was written to do: give us words for the moments when life feels unfair, evil looks loud, and we do not know how to pray without pretending everything is fine.
We walk through David’s song as a practical guide to prayer and pain. He starts by remembering God’s faithfulness, then speaks honestly about enemies, suffering, and the need for rescue. Along the way, Psalm 9 paints a strong picture of who God is: a righteous judge who rules with fairness, a shelter for the oppressed, and a refuge in times of trouble. If you’ve been searching the Bible for comfort, justice, and clarity, this chapter is packed with it.
We also pull out a simple prayer pattern you can use today when you’re facing hard conversations with God: start with praise, tell the truth about what hurts, ask for what you need, and finish with trust. The point is not polished words. The point is closeness with a God who already knows what’s in your heart and still loves you.

Psalm 9 Theme: God Defends The Weak
SPEAKER_01Well everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 9, and today's title is God Defends the Weak. God Defends the Weak. I don't know about you, but we live in a fallen world, and I hate so bad sometimes when good things happen to bad people. You know, we we live in this world where good has already defeated evil, but there's still a war going on. And sometimes people get caught in that crossfire and good things happen to good people, but it's really hard when good things, or excuse me, bad things happen to good people. Sometimes it's really hard when bad things happen to innocent people or weak people who can't defend themselves. And what I love about that is this is also something that the psalmist had to deal with. And they're writing out their feelings of God, how in the world do I do this? So we're gonna talk about this today and maybe get an inroad into this difficult conversation that so many of us have to deal with called how do we talk to God about what we how do we even pray about when good things happen to weak or innocent people? So we'll get into all that just a moment. So get your Bibles out, get your Bible journals out. Also make sure you take just a moment to like, share, and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure to leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. And make sure you're going to the Bible breakdown discussion on Facebook. There's an amazing team of people doing devotions every single day. You really ought to be reading those every single day. And you can get all that information at the Biblebreakdown.com because the more we dig, the more we find.
Why Psalms Helps Us Process Pain
SPEAKER_01Well, if you've been with us over the past few days, we are walking through the book of Psalms. And remember, from the time of Moses all the way to the time of Malachi, the end of the Old Testament. This is the greatest hits of the people of God. It's a collection of five different song books of the greatest songs that really help the people of God just process life. It's the soundtrack of life. They would sing these songs when there would be times of lament, times of celebration, times of road trips to Jerusalem, all these different things. And it's a way that the people of God would be processing difficult things. Today is one where you can tell that David sees what we see. And that is we live in a fallen world, which means sometimes good things are going to happen to bad people, and sometimes bad things are going to happen to good people. And to for the most part, we kind of get our head around that, right? But what do you do when bad things happen to innocent people? To people who they they in no way were in the line of fire for that. Well, what I love about this is the Bible doesn't shy away from it, but rather it gives us a doorway into how to even start a conversation with God about this. Let's read this together. Psalm
Reading Psalm 9: Justice And Refuge
SPEAKER_01chapter 9, verse 1 says this I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart. I will tell of the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you, and I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. My enemies retreated, and they staggered and died when you appeared. For you have judged in my favor. From your throne you have judged with fairness, and you have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked. You have erased their names forever. The enemy is finished in endless ruins, and the cities you uprooted are now forgotten. But the Lord reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed and a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds, for he who avenges a murder cares for the helpless. He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer. Lord, have mercy on me. See how my enemies torment me, snatch me back from the jaws of death, save me so that I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem's gates, so I can rejoice that you have rescued me. The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others, and their own feet have caught, been caught in a trap that they have set. The Lord is known for his justice, and the wicked are trapped by their own deeds. The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God, but the needy will not be ignored forever. The hope of the poor will not always be crushed. Arise, O Lord, do not let mere mortals defy you. Judge the nations, make them tremble in fear, O Lord. Let the nations know that they are merely human. And then interlude, which means let the band play. So
A Simple Prayer Pattern For Hard Days
SPEAKER_01what you see here is you see David, first of all, say, God, I'm so thankful that you have saved me so many times. Man, so it's like he's saying, there were times when I was that weak person, when I was that innocent person, and you saved me. And God, here I am again. Here I am, just needing your help again. And also not just me, but all these other people. But at the same time, I trust you. And so God, I ask you to do what only you can do. And can I tell you, that is a wonderful way to pray and ask God about the difficult things going on in life. And that is number one, is to start off with remembering God's faithfulness. Remember that God has helped us before. God has been faithful before. And then number two is just to be honest. God, I'm up, I'm up in it again. I've got all the trouble again. And other people have got this trouble again. We need help. And then number three, asking for what you need. God, I need you to expose the wicked. I need you to remove this issue. I need you to do this. And then you end with, and I trust you. I trust that you're gonna do what only you can do. You know, I've talked to people sometimes who they feel so afraid to talk to God about the hard things. And my question for them is always, do you think he doesn't already know? Do you think that he is surprised about the things that's going on in your heart? No. He already knows, and here's the best news he already knows, and he already still loves you. He's not surprised, and he's still here. Therefore, be honest with God. Tell God, God, this hurts. I don't feel like that myself or these people, I don't feel like we have we're we're in this spot. I feel like we're innocent in this situation. But you know what? I know you've been with me before. I know that you're interested in justice. And so I ask you to have your way and I trust you. So you pray and ask, and you hope with trust, and watch what happens. Let's pray
Prayer, Praise, And Closing Blessing
SPEAKER_01together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you see us and that you know us. You are for us in so many ways. God, I pray you will give us the courage to lean into some of these hard conversations because we realize, God, that you're there waiting on us. You're not ashamed of us, you're not intimidated by these hard conversations. You love them. There's peace on the other side. We celebrate that now. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And amen. Well, God's word says in Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth. There's always a new reason to give God praise. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Psalm chapter 11.
