The Bible Breakdown: Daily Bible Reading
Psalm 11: Faith Over Fear
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Fear talks fast, paints the worst picture, and demands a decision right now. Psalm 11 slows us down and gives us something sturdier than adrenaline: a reason to trust when the shadows feel close. We’re walking through “Faith Over Fear” with Pastor Brandon as we picture David on the run from Saul, exhausted and threatened, yet steady enough to say, “I trust the Lord for protection.”
We dig into why the book of Psalms feels like a soundtrack for life and how it teaches us to relate to God when the foundations seem to be cracking. You’ll hear a real pastoral insight from a moment many of us recognize: getting bad news and wanting to jump straight to next steps. Planning matters, but the first move is remembering who’s in control. Psalm 11 keeps that order clear: God still rules from heaven, God sees, and God loves justice, even when your situation feels unfair or unsafe.
We also talk about a quieter battle: when your life isn’t in danger, but your hope is. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is faithfulness, the strength to keep showing up, loving God, and living with integrity one more day. If you’re looking for Christian encouragement, a Psalm for anxiety, or a Bible study that connects Scripture to real pressure, this breakdown will meet you where you are.

Psalm 11 Theme Faith Over Fear
SPEAKER_01Well, everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 11, and today's title is Faith Over Fear. Faith over fear. This psalm was most likely written while David was fleeing from Saul. And what would have happened a lot of times is they would have been in the process of just fleeing and going, and then they had to stop at some point. And I can almost imagine David as he is there at the end of the day. He's tired, he's probably dirty, he's been, he's been running through the forest and and and just different things all the all the way. And finally they're resting and they're planning and preparing for the next day. And they're just like, I don't know what we're gonna do. This is gonna be horrible, it's gonna be whatever. And in the middle of all of that, it's like David stops and he says, Wait a minute. I choose not to live in fear. I choose to live in faith. This is a bad day, and tomorrow's probably gonna be a bad day too. We're running for our lives, but that does not mean God is not with us along the way. If you've ever been in a situation where you are in the middle of trouble, and while you're just trying to take a deep breath, fears are swirling all around you. Today's psalm is for you. So if you'll get your Bibles out, get your Bible journals out, we're gonna jump, jump right into it just a moment. Also, make sure you take just a moment, like, share, subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you leave us a five-star review on the podcast. It really does help. Psalms As Soundtrack For Life
SPEAKER_01Well, we've been talking about it over the past few days that the book of Psalms is called just the soundtrack for life. Because what it is, it is from the time of Moses all the way time to Malachi. And it is five psalm books full of the greatest hits of the people of God. And it's all different aspects of life. And we say that the book of Proverbs helps us learn how to relate to people, but the book of Psalms helps us learn how to relate to God. And this is one of those where it's when you choose to trust God over the voices of fear in your life.
A Hard Diagnosis And God In Control
SPEAKER_01It reminds me of a situation where I was talking to somebody one time and they had just got home from a doctor's office visit and the prognosis wasn't good. And they were there and they were realizing there was gonna be some chemo, there was gonna be some difficult moments, they didn't quite know what it was going to be. And I was thinking that the best way I could help them was to talk about next steps. What are we gonna do? I mean, some people, one person once said, Brandon, if if I didn't know any better, I think your middle name is next step canon. I mean, it's like always, always thinking about the next step. And so that's what I thought I was gonna be able to do. In the middle of it, this guy was like, just wait a minute, Pastor. I just want to make sure I remember that God's in control. And first of all, that was awesome. Second of all, I felt like a jerk. That's what I was supposed to be doing, right? I'm supposed to be the one reminding everybody about God. I was the one who was thinking about everything else. And it wasn't that he was saying, I don't want to make a plan. He was saying, before I make a plan, I need to remember who's in control. And that's what's going on here in this psalm. David is likely fleeing from Saul. I mean, he is on the run. They are not trying to come and give him a traffic ticket, they're coming to kill him. And in the middle of all this, while they've maybe while they've taken a break for the night, David is just kind of choosing trust over fear. And he writes this song that still speaks to our hearts today on how to relate to God when there are wolves all around us. Here
Reading Psalm 11 Aloud
SPEAKER_01we go. Psalm chapter 11, verse 1 says this I trust the Lord for protection. Why do you say to me, Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety? The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right. The foundations of the law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do? But the Lord is in his holy temple. The Lord still rules from heaven. He watches closely over everyone, examining every person on earth. The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds. For the righteous Lord loves justice, and the virtuous will see his face.
Trust God While Taking Wise Steps
SPEAKER_01So, in other words, David is saying, I know that what Saul is doing is not right. I know that this is bad, but I choose to trust the Lord. That ultimately the Lord is going to have his way with Saul, and the Lord is also going to have his way with me. And whatever that is, I trust him. I trust him. Did you realize how much boldness that takes to look fear in the face and smile? To look at possible death and say, you know what? You're coming. But my Jesus is good. My God is good. And he may ask me to lay down my life. He may. But if he does, he'll be with me in that too. That is one of the boldest, most courageous things I can think of. And here's here's the honest truth today is what you may be dealing with today, it might be a life or death situation. You might be dealing with a health diagnosis or you may be dealing with literal physical danger. And while you are in the process of getting safety, getting medical attention, make sure you don't hear me wrong. I'm not saying you don't do those things. Absolutely do those things. I'm just saying make sure that you put your ultimate hope in Jesus. David was in the process of fleeing. He wasn't not fleeing for his life. It's just in that moment, he wasn't letting the fear overwhelm him. So while you're getting those doctors' visits done, while you're getting to a place of safety, you're remembering that your trust and your faith is in God. But here's the other thing. Maybe your life is not in jeopardy, but your hope is. You're doing okay on the outside, but you're slowly dying on the inside. Do you know sometimes the greatest act of faith is faithfulness? Sometimes consistency and continuing to love God, continuing to be that man of God in your home, be that woman of God in your friend group. Sometimes that it takes so much courage because it takes getting up and getting after it one more day. You know, it's one thing to kind of lift some weights and put it down and walk away. It's another thing to lift some weights and then hold it there. That takes a different kind of strength. And that's what David is doing is he is saying, I'm gonna have to stand under this, but I choose trust over fear. And I'm gonna stand under this as long as I have to, because God's going to be with me. And here's the thing: He was. David later became king over all Israel. I don't know what God's got planned for your life, but I'm gonna tell you, the Bible says it is good to give you a hope and
Prayer For Courage And Peace
SPEAKER_01a future. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you're with us and you're for us. Lord, I pray that you will give us the courage to choose trust over fear. In Jesus' name we pray.
Bless The Lord And Closing
SPEAKER_01Amen. And anyway, what God's Word says in Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me. He says, I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Every day is a new opportunity to give God praise. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for five Psalms. I want to say Philippians for some reason, Psalms chapter 12.
