When you cannot tell what is real anymore, it does something to your soul. We have all felt it, scrolling past confident headlines, polished videos, and “trust me” commentary that turns out to be a version of the truth, not the truth. Today we slow down and let Psalm 12 speak into that fatigue with a grounded, ancient honesty that feels painfully current.

Pastor Brandon leads us through David’s words in “Truth In A World Of Lies,” written from a season when David is surrounded by deceit and cannot easily tell who is safe. Psalm 12 names flattering lips, boastful tongues, and a culture where the wicked strut while evil gets praised. Then it pivots to hope: God sees what is being done to the helpless, hears the groans of the poor, and promises rescue. We talk about discernment, propaganda, and why God’s promises are “pure,” like refined silver, when everything else feels contaminated by spin.

We also get practical. What if, instead of only turning the noise off, we bring it straight to God in prayer and ask Him to remove unhealthy influence and raise up righteous influence? And what if God has gifted you to speak truth from His Word into the social issues of our time with wisdom and courage? Listen along, pray with us, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a five-star review so more people can find daily Bible study and steady truth.

Psalm 12 Theme And Setup

SPEAKER_01

Well everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 12, and today's title is Truth in a World of Lies. Truth in a World of Lies. One of the things that King David would have had to deal with, especially before he became king, and he's on the run from Saul, is dealing with deceitful people. You know, he would go into different villages, and if they were on Saul's side, he had to find that out. And they weren't going to just say it. They're like, hey, we're on Saul's side, we're going to get you. No, no, they're not going to do that. They're going to be like, oh, David, we're so glad to see you. You just stay right there. Whatever you do, don't look outside. You know, it's he's he's constantly having to deal with propaganda, with lies, with deceit. And he's just had enough of it. I don't know about you, but in the world we live in, and I don't, it doesn't matter if you listen to this when it comes out new or if you listen to it 10 years from when it does, we live in a world full of lies. We live in a world where when you watch the news, the news always has a spin on it. It's not just about what the truth is, it's about what do they want you to believe the truth is. And sometimes I just want you to give it to me straight. Let me figure out how I feel about it, right? And that's what David is doing. And so instead of taking it to just his neighbor and complaining on social media, David takes it to God. And he teaches us how we can relate to God when we just get so frustrated in a world of lies. And so we're gonna get all that in just a moment. So if you've got your Bibles, got your Bible journals, got your coffee out, we're gonna dive into God's word. So make sure you take just a moment as well. Like, share, and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Make sure you leave us a five-star view on the podcast. Reading Psalm 12

SPEAKER_01

the Biblebreakdown.com because the more we dig, the more we find. Well, once again, we are going through the book of Psalms, one song at a time. And this is the soundtrack of the people of God, the song book, five different song books that teach us how to relate to God in the good days, in the bad days, in the difficult days, and the controversial days. There is even songs for road trips. You know, if you've ever been on a road trip and you're trying to think of any possible song, they had songs for road trips here. So it's everything. And this one is written by David. And it we don't know exactly when it was written, other than a time when David was fed up. He was absolutely fed up with realizing I don't know who I can trust anymore. It seems like everybody with a YouTube channel has got something to say. Everybody's got a hot take out there somewhere, and I don't know who to believe. You ever felt like that? Well, let's read what God's Word has to say and how David is teaching us how do we take it to God when we just sick of all the propaganda? Here we go. Psalm 12, verse 1 says this help, O Lord, for the godly are fastly disappearing. In other words, by the way, it's him saying, I don't know if I can find a single YouTube channel where people just love Jesus anymore. All right, here we go. The faithful have vanished from the earth. Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. May the Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. David tells how you really feel. All right, I will. Verse 4. They say, We will lie till our heart is content. Our lips are our own. Who can stop us? Well, the Lord replies, I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have seen or I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do. The Lord's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation. Even though the wicked strut about, the evil is praised throughout the land.

Applying Truth To Media Noise

SPEAKER_01

Wow. Has there ever been a psalm that more directly speaks to some of the things we deal with in our world today? I don't know about you, but I get so weary sometimes. Like I don't mind if somebody has a bend, you know, if they're more liberal or they're more conservative or whatever. But let me know. Don't don't lie to me and tell me something that's not true. Tell me that that you hate this person or love this person. So I kind of know where you're coming from, right? But it seems like so many YouTube videos and news reports and podcasts, you know, they've got the truth only to find out, no, they they've got a version of it over here. And what I love about this is God's word teaches us, you can take that to God as well. And you can just say, God, those who say, I'm gonna do it my way, I just ask you to remove their their ability to really get into the minds of people, remove their influence. And I pray that you will exalt the ones that you've put into a position that can make a difference. Here, here's the question When is the last time that you got frustrated about you know social media and all this kind of stuff? But instead of just getting mad and turning it off, which turning it off is not a bad thing, but instead of just getting mad and turning it off, what if you took it to God and said, God, I pray that you will remove those who don't need influence and you will raise up those that do? Here's another question. Is that you? Has God gifted you with the ability to speak the truth of God's word into the social issues of the time? God hasn't given me that gift. I just know how to read the Bible, you know. But somebody's God's given somebody that gift. What if it was you? What if you were the one that did that? If not, we can still pray. And instead of just getting mad and turning it off and just saying everybody's crazy, saying, okay, take it to God. God, I feel like everybody's crazy. So I pray you'll remove the influence of the of the evil and you'll raise the influence of the righteous so that we can still make a difference in

Prayer For Wisdom And Boldness

SPEAKER_01

this world. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, for all you are doing and all that you are. I'm thankful for you today. I pray, Holy Spirit, that you will speak to us, give us wisdom, give us confidence, give us boldness to do what you've called us to do. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And

Closing Verse And Goodbye

SPEAKER_01

amen. Well, God's word says in Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Psalm chapter 13.
