Psalm 33: Celebrate Your Hope

You can get through a hard day and still miss the good God is doing right in front of you. We’ve both been there: you finish one stressful season and five more things are waiting on the other side, so you move on without celebrating, without breathing, without remembering. That’s why Psalm 33 hits so differently. It doesn’t pretend problems disappear, but it refuses to let trouble become the only story we tell.

We walk through Psalm 33 and hear the call to sing, praise, and “play skillfully” not as background noise, but as a deliberate act of faith. The psalm roots our gratitude in what’s true: God’s word holds firm, his love fills the earth, and the Creator who spoke the stars into place still sees every human heart. When anxiety says power belongs to what you can control, this passage answers with perspective: strength, resources, and “war horses” can’t save the way God can.

Then we make it practical with a simple daily habit for Christian living: put every problem alongside a hope. Name the hard thing you’re facing, and beside it write one way God has already been faithful. That pairing trains your mind to remember, rebuilds spiritual resilience, and keeps your hope anchored in the Lord who is bigger than what’s in front of you.

Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 20 or 33, Psalm chapter 33. And today's title is Celebrate Your Hope. Celebrate Your Hope. I have someone in my life that I love so very much. And this person, they they have a challenge in their life, and that is they don't celebrate, they only talk about the bad things. And one day I was challenging them on this, and I was like, why, why, why do you focus on the bad things, but not the good things? And they said, very honestly, it was there was no malice or whatever. They said, well, because the good things are they're they're there, they're good. I'm trying to figure out the bad things. And one of the things I had to tell them is I said, listen, I've struggled with that before too. And I'm gonna tell you something, being thankful and focusing on hope, it's what gives you the strength to make it through the difficult things. And I just want to encourage you today as we read through this, it's so important that we give time to celebrate our hope. Because there's a lot of people around us that if they don't know Jesus, they don't have lasting hope, but we do. And so we should never take it for granted, but we should always be thankful for it. God, and they are the greatest hits, the collection of songs from the time of Moses to Malachi. And they are writing about how to do life with God. And here's the thing about the book of Psalms: it's it's about all the different things. So there's times of difficulty, and you know, just a few days ago we were talking about how to come to God when we're feeling overwhelmed or we feel like God's not listening. But there's also psalms like this one that it's talking about psalms or songs to sing when you just need to celebrate. You just need to throw a party for a moment. And I think that's so important because for many of us, we have so many things going on in our life that as soon as God brings us through one thing, we got like five more on the other side of it, right? And so we go from thing to thing to thing. And if we're not careful, we don't stop and celebrate what God has already done. And the reason why that can be such a problem is because at some point, if we don't stop and celebrate, we begin to forget the things that he's done. And so we can be looking at a mountain and go, God, why haven't you ever come through before? And if we just turn around and look, there's about a hundred of them behind us, you know, that we've already, he's brought us through. But if we don't stop and rehearse the wonders of the Lord, then we can forget it. And so we're going to read through this as this psalmist is just celebrating the hope that they have and celebrating with one another. So if you're ready, here we go. Psalm 33, verse 1 says this Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord. It is fitting for the pure to sing praise to him. Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre, make music for him on the ten-stringed harp, sing a new song of praise to him, play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good, and the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea and its boundaries, and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke the world began. It appeared at his command. The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes, but the Lord's plans stand firm forever. His intentions can never be shaken. What joy for the nations whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. The best equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don't count on your war horse to give you victory. For all its strength it cannot save you. But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord. Our hope is in you alone.

Pair Every Problem With Hope

So in other words, this psalmist took just a moment and had a party. He's sitting there and he's thinking about the goodness of God. He's thinking about what God has done. And that doesn't take away that he might also be looking at a challenge. He might be looking at a problem. He's just saying that's not all that exists. Problems exist, but so does the goodness of God. And I think it's so very important for us to remember that yes, problems exist. Yes, there are difficulties, but there's also goodness that God is also faithful. So here's my challenge for you today. Today, before you think about all the problems that you have, I want you to put every problem alongside a hope. So if you think about a difficult meeting you have to have with someone today, also think about something good God has done. If you think about the fact that you're, you know, you're babysitting your neighbor's kids this afternoon and you really don't want to, think about something else good that's going on. If you think about the fact that you've got a young child and you're having to deal with a problem, think about also something good. So you couple them together because yes, there are difficulties, there are challenges, there are bad things. There's also good things that the Lord is doing. And that helps you to remember that God is faithful and that there is no challenge you will face today, that God is not bigger.

Prayer And Final Blessing

Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you remind us of your goodness. Not because you know you need to be reminded of your goodness, but we do. We need to be reminded of how great you are, because it reminds us that you have never encountered a problem that made you nervous, but you are greater. And if you are greater, then we have no reason to be afraid because our hope is in you and you're always more than enough. Thank you for all you're doing in our lives. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Anyway, well, God's word says in Psalm one, uh Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me, I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I love you.
