The Bible Breakdown: Daily Bible Reading
Psalm 41: Friends Betray You
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A friend’s betrayal doesn’t just break your trust, it can break your sense of safety. Psalm 41 refuses to sugarcoat that pain, and we don’t either. We read David’s words and sit with what it feels like when people show up like friends, collect gossip, and then spread it everywhere. If you’ve ever thought, “I just want to get through life without a Judas,” you’re not alone.
We talk about why betrayal can make you want to back away from everyone, and how easy it is to accidentally put God in the same category as the people who hurt you. David shows a better way: bring it all to God raw and honest. We also dig into a crucial distinction for Christian living and emotional healing: forgiveness is real, but forgiveness does not automatically mean trust, and it does not always mean the relationship goes back to what it was. God can strengthen you so you stop reacting and start responding with wisdom.
To make it practical, we connect Psalm 41 to Philippians 4 and the promise of peace that guards your heart and mind when you take your requests to God. We close with a focused prayer for healing, open doors to bring peace, and courage to move when God opens the way. If you’re looking for a Bible study podcast on Psalm 41, betrayal, forgiveness, prayer, and learning to trust God again, this is for you.

Welcome To Bible Breakdown
SPEAKER_00Hey everyone and welcome to the Bible Breakdown Podcast. In this podcast, we will be breaking down the Bible one chapter a day. Whether you are a new believer or have been following Christ for a while, we believe that you will learn something new and fresh every single day. So thank you for joining us and let's get into breaking down the Bible together.
Psalm 41 And Betrayal
SPEAKER_01Well, hello everybody. Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 41. And today's title is When Friends Betray You. When Friends Betray You. I don't know about you, but I've kind of thought in my life that I should be able to go through life without having one Judas in my life. Jesus had one, and you look throughout the Bible, and many of the people in the Bible, they have those people who betray them. But I just want to try to find a way to make it through life without that happening. But that is not the case. If you live life very long, you're going to have people, whether on purpose or not, they're going to turn their back on you, they're going to betray you. And when that happens, I don't know about you, but it makes me want to back away from everybody and not trust people. And if I'm not careful, I'll put God into that category. But rather, the better thing to do is to learn from God's word as David is dealing with this himself and watch what he does and let it teach us what we do when we feel betrayed by a friend. And so if you've ever had that happen, today's the day for you. So if you got your Bibles, open up with me to Psalm chapter 41. We're going to get into it in just a

Why Book One Of Psalms
SPEAKER_01find. Well, if you've been with us over the past several days, we are going through the book of Psalms. And it is actually five books of Psalms. And today is the final Psalm in book one. So book one is Psalm 1 through 41. And most of these Psalms have been by David. And it is during a time where David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is teaching us how to do life with God. The Bible says that David had the um was a man after God's own heart. So he pursued God, not just what God could do, but who God was. And he teaches us through doing life with him. And in today's chapter, we see how he writes a song about what to do when you feel betrayed by a friend. Once again, I hope that never happens to you. But if it has, you know, that's a special kind of hurt. Because it's one thing to be hurt by people that you don't know or you don't like, but people are supposed to know you, who's supposed to be watching your back when they, you know, when they stick a knife in it, it really hurts. And so David's going to help us learn how to grapple with this and what we do when we feel betrayed.
Reading Psalm 41 Aloud
SPEAKER_01So here we go. Psalm 41, verse 1 says this Oh, what joys for those who are kind to the poor. The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble. The Lord protects them and he keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies. The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health. O Lord, I pray, have mercy on me. Heal me for I have sinned against you. But my enemies say nothing but evil about me. How soon will he die and be forgotten? They ask. They visit me as if they were my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere. All who hate me whisper about me, imagining the worst. He is some fatal disease, they say, he will never get out of that bed. Even my best friend, the one I completely trusted, the one who shared my food has turned against me. O Lord, have mercy on me. Make me well again so I can pay them back. I know you are pleased with me, for you have not let my enemies triumph over me. You have preserved my life because I am innocent. You have brought me into your presence forever. Praise the Lord, O God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen.
Raw Prayer And Real Forgiveness
SPEAKER_01So David's being raw and honest. And can I tell you, when we are betrayed by a friend, that's what we do. We go to God and we are raw and we are honest. And did you notice what he did? He starts with saying that the joy of the Lord is great for those who are good to others. And so he's just saying, God is good and he is moving right now. And he's got other stuff he's got to deal with. There's some bad stuff happening, but he's saying, but while I'm dealing with this bad stuff, God is moving right now. And then he says, and while God is moving, I got some jerks up in my life. You know what I'm saying? He's saying, I got some, I got some mean mugs who are who are trying to mess me up. And he says, even my friends are trying to mess me up. And so it's one thing that these bad guys are going on, but what if what about my bro? My ride or die? He's messing me up. He brings that to God as well. And he was saying, God, help me so I can pay them back. Now, whether or not that's a good thing is open for, you know, what kind of payback are we talking about? We're not talking about revenge, but let me be in a place where I can offer grace for their slander, where I can offer forgiveness for all their difficulty. Now, forgiveness does not mean I trust them again. It doesn't mean we're going to be friends again, but help me to be strengthened so I'm not reacting anymore. I'm responding to what they're doing. And so the the answer to the question, what do we do when we feel betrayed? We bring it to God. We trust Him and we ask Him to give us strength. And when we do that, it's amazing what will happen. The Bible says in Philippians chapter 4, he says, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, with prayer, with asking, and with thanksgiving, make your request known to God. And then the peace of God, which passes understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. If you're feeling betrayed today, take it to the Lord. Tell him, God, I need your help. I want to make this right if I can, but I'm going to need your strength to do it. And if you'll trust the Lord, he will give you the strength and open the right doors at the right time to do the right
Prayer For Healing And Peace
SPEAKER_01thing. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you're with us and that you're for us and all things. Lord, I pray, Lord, that you will first of all heal our hearts. Secondly, Lord, you'll open doors of opportunity to bring peace. And number three, if you open that door, you'll give us the courage to move through it. If you don't open that door, Lord, then we trust that your timing is perfect. And we will move when you give us permission. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. What God's Word says in Psalm 34, verse 1, say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Psalm chapter 42.
