Strength isn’t just something we need someday. We need it before the coffee, before the commute, before the hard conversation, before the next headline. That’s why Psalm 84 hits so close to home. Pastor Brandon walks us through this “morning song” from the Psalms and shows how it answers a practical, everyday prayer: God, give me strength for today.
We read Psalm 84 line by line and trace its movement from longing to joy to resilience. The psalmist doesn’t treat God’s presence like a religious concept. He treats it like home. We talk about why “a single day in your courts” beats a thousand days of chasing comfort, and how the “valley of weeping” can become a place of springs when your strength comes from the Lord. If you’re looking for Bible teaching that connects to real life, this episode offers a clear, grounded way to think about spiritual refreshment and daily dependence on God.
Then we dig into a key shift: the difference between God being present and us being aware of His presence. God isn’t distant, and we don’t have to beg Him to show up. What we actually need is for the Holy Spirit to open our eyes. We share practical ways to grow that awareness through Scripture reading, Christian meditation that fills your mind with God’s Word, worship that expands your view of God, and a simple daily request: “Lord, reveal Yourself to me,” then paying attention as you go.
If Psalm 84 is what your soul needs right now, press play, share it with a friend who feels worn down, and subscribe so you can keep breaking down the Bible with us one chapter a day. If this helps you, leave a five-star review and tell us what changed in your day after you tried it.

Well everybody, welcome back to the Bible Breakdown Podcast with your host, Pastor Brandon. Today, Psalm chapter 84. And today's title is How to Find Strength for Today. How to find strength for today. One of the things I love about the prayer that Jesus gave us to pray on the Sermon on the Mount is he said, Lord, give us today our daily bread. And the thought process behind that is we shouldn't be praying just for God to be with us for all our days, even though we can pray, that's fine. But the assumption there that God is giving us is that you will come to me every day. I want to walk with you every day. I want to give you strength for every day. And one of the amazing things about the Lord is he didn't just shout his love from heaven for us, but he came to this earth and he walks with us every single day. And so how do we pray? God, I need your strength for today. Well, if you've ever wanted to know about that prayer, we're going to talk about it today. So if you have your Bibles, want to open up with me to Psalm 84. We're going to jump into this in just a moment. But as always, before we do, make sure you take a moment, like, share, and subscribe to the YouTube channel and the podcast. Once again, as always, we are going through the book of Psalms. This is the 84th Psalm that we are going through, and it is a collection of the greatest hits of the people of God. From the time of Moses to Malachi, we are walking through these Psalms that are telling the story of how the nation of Israel learned to do life with God. And that's why we're calling it the sound of soundtrack for life is we are learning how to do life with God. And this is one of those where it almost appears as though this is a song that would be sung in the morning time at the time of the morning sacrifice, because it was a time to say, God, I need you again, fresh and new in my life. And this is a great song to pray. And, you know, I think the whole Bible is great. It's worth memorizing all of it, but this is just a few short verses, but it's a great psalm to get the gist of in your mind. And when you're praying in the morning, just reciting a little bit of this to the Lord. So I'm going to read this together and see how the psalmist is saying, God, this is what I need from you today. And kind of spoiler alert, he's saying the best way for me to find strength is to find my rest in your presence. So
here we go. Psalm 84, verse 1 says this How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of heaven's armies. I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body, and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar. O Lord of heaven's armies, my king and my God, what joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude, which means let the band play. So in other words, he begins with saying, Lord, your presence is life to me. Let me be found in your presence. Let's continue. Verse 5, it says, What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the valley of weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessing. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem. O Lord of heaven's armies, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude, which means let the band play. So now he's saying, First of all, God, I long for your presence. Secondly, he says, those who find their strength from the Lord will be refreshed in all their days. Now, verse 9 says this, O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield. Show favor to the one you have anointed. A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our son and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will uphold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of heaven's armies, what joy for those who trust in you. Well,
there you go. He says, How do you find strength for today? You find strength by spending time in the presence of God. And that's a hard thing because we spend time in the presence of God all the time. Like right now, you're in the presence of God. You can't help it. God fills all the universe with his goodness. You know, he is he is set apart from us, but yet he is with us. In other words, you know, pantheism says that all things are God. That's not it. He is separate from his creation, yet he holds all of creation in the palm of his hand. Therefore, right now you are in the presence of God. The difference is our awareness of his presence. And so, you know, we say things like, God, come and come and visit me. God, come down and be with me. And we're using phrases that we understand to say, God, I want to experience your presence. But what we are really saying is, let us become more aware of your goodness, to realize that you are already here. I'm just not tuned into it. And so what the psalmist is saying is he started off with saying, God, your presence is wonderful. And then he says, God, those who find rest in your presence will be refreshed. And then the third one is those who do that and are refreshed, no good thing will be kept from them because they trust in the Lord. And so the steps are to recognize that God's presence is your home. Number two is to long for it. And number three, to
walk with the Lord. Now we walk with God by faith. And we ask the Holy Spirit, God, reveal yourself to me. And there's many ways we can experience God's presence. We can experience his presence, you know, become more aware of his presence by reading his word as he reveals himself to us through his word. We can experience God's presence by meditating on God's word. One of the ways we do that, you know, Eastern meditation is emptying your mind of all things. Biblical, Christian meditation is filling your mind with God things. And so we put God's word in our heart and we just dwell on it. You know, that verse that says, O Lord of heaven's armies, what joy for those who trust in you. And so you think on that. What joy for those, the joy for those, the joy for those who trust, for those who trust, for those who trust in you. And you're just just you're just meditating, just cycling over those words. And as you begin to get a new idea of what that truly means, the presence of God is revealed to us. When we worship, when we're singing of the greatness of God, and God is expanded in our minds, we experience the presence of God. There's so many different ways. But let me tell you the number one way to experience the presence of God, and that is to ask him, God, will you reveal yourself to me? And then let him choose how he does it. Will you open my eyes to see your presence in a new way and then let him choose? And then you go about your day mindful of the Lord and watch what happens. Maybe it'll come in a song that you hear, or in a conversation that you have, or the beautiful sunset will hit you in a different way or something. But if you ask God to open your eyes to see his glory in a brand new way to give you strength for today, he will. So ask and watch what happens.
Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that your presence is all around us. It's in us, it's over us. Help us, Lord, to open our eyes to see it. And Lord, let that revelation give us strength for today. Have your way in our lives. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. And amen. Well, God's word says in Psalm 34, verse 1. Say it with me. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow for Psalm chapter 85.
